The Press of Atlantic City is the fourth largest daily newspaper in New Jersey. Based in Pleasantville, New Jersey, it is the primary newspaper for southeastern New Jersey and the Jersey Shore. The Newspaper Designated Market runs from Waretown in Southern Ocean county (exit 69 on the Garden State Parkway) down to Cape May (exit 0). It also reaches west to Cumberland County, New Jersey. The paper has a daily circulation of 70,000 and a Sunday circulation of 85,000.[1]
Coverage focuses on local, regional and state news, with selected national and international news included from wire stories. Founded in 1895 by Walter Edge as the Atlantic City Daily Press, it is now owned by Abarta, a privately owned Pittsburgh-based holding company.[2] Around 1928, the name of the paper was changed to the Atlantic City Press, and in 1971 the name was changed to The Press. In 1988, its name was changed again to The Press of Atlantic City, the name currently in use.[3]
The Press of Atlantic City also publishes various other products including At The Shore (a weekly entertainment magazine for southern New Jersey), Real Estate Monthly, Health, Indulge, Summer Fun and a host of other niche insert and freestanding titles. Two branded editions of the paper -- Press Extra and Sunday Saver -- provide additional full market coverage.
Unlike most newspapers, The Press of Atlantic City is printed using a flexographic process that seals the inks into the paper and reduces smudging, allowing readers to avoid getting their hands or clothing dirty.
Although The Press has no daily newspaper competitors within its direct marketing area, other daily newspapers that have some local penetration are The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Asbury Park Press, Cherry Hill's Courier-Post and The Vineland Daily Journal.
Digital Editions
The primary web site is PressofAtlanticCity.com, which was the first newspaper digital edition in New Jersey to convert to a paid subscription model on October 3, 2011. It is also available in a replica e-edition that allows viewers to see the entire paper digitally as it appears each day in print, along with page turning technology and links. In addition to news and sports, both web editions have local auto, real estate and job pages within the respective sites.
Additional non-news websites launched by The Press of Atlantic City Media Group include BlissBridalExpo.com,a site for local wedding inforation, and AtlanticCityInsiders.com, a travel guide site for Atlantic City, New Jersey.
