The Highlands is a massive open-air shopping, dining and entertainment complex along Interstate 70 in Triadelphia, West Virginia, 7 miles east of the city of Wheeling. It opened in August 2004 with the only Cabela's within a 5-hour distance.[1] It would explode in growth soon after and feature a J.C. Penney, Target and Walmart as anchor tenants and over 50 shops and restaurants. It is owned and operated by its developer, the Ohio County Development Authority.
Current plans are to develop the Highlands into a destination location for the tri-state region, with a multiplex theater (now open) as well as a waterpark and hotel and an indoor/outdoor theme park called Wild Escape.[2][3]
