The Citadel Bulldogs football, 1920–29
The Citadel Bulldogs football teams represented The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina, United States. The program was established in 1905. Their primary rivals are Furman University and Virginia Military Institute (VMI). The games against VMI were dubbed the Military Classic of the South in 1976. The trophy for the game, the Silver Shako, was also introduced in 1976.
In the 1920's, the Bulldogs opened their new Johnson Hagood Stadium one block south of campus.

The City of Charleston opened a new stadium for the 1927 season. The Bulldogs claimed their first win in the stadium over Oglethorpe on October 15, also the day the stadium was dedicated.[1]
