Texas (nautical)

A Texas is a deck directly below the pilothouse of a straight-deck paddle steamer/ riverboat. It is named Texas because Texas was at one time the largest state, and the captain's cabin is usually the largest cabin. Other areas on paddle steamers and or riverboats were also named after states.[1]
