Possible beta decay of 248Bk: a situation similar to 176Lu edit

In theory, 248Bk (spin 6+) can undergo EC decay to the 6+ state of 248Cm with a Q value 391.3 keV, or β decay to the 6+ state of 248Cf with a Q value 557.6 keV. But the   relation for some states of 248Cm or 248Cf means that the spins are due to collective nuclear rotation, while the spin of 248Bk is intrinsic. This is essentially the same situation as for 176Lu. I would guess that the β half-life of 248Bk is at the order of 109 years, and the EC half-life at the order of 1010 years.

If the spin of 248Bk is, on the other hand, confirmed to be 8, it can still decay to the 6 state of 248Cf, or to the 8+ state with a Q value 357.0 keV. The β half-life of 248Bk may be at the order of 1010 years. 103.166.228.86 (talk) 16:33, 15 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
