Template:Infobox character has been listed at Templates for discussion (nomination), but it was protected, so it could not be tagged. Please add:
{{subst:tfm|help=off|type=sidebar|1=Infobox Transformers character}}
to the top of the page to complete the nomination. Thank you. Grandmaster Huon (talk) 14:34, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
- I'm not entirely sure that putting a notice on the template is necessary, given that 1) it's the proposed target of a merge, and 2) I don't see the template changing for a "merge" outcome. I'll let another templateeditor decide. SWinxy (talk) 17:52, 29 August 2023 (UTC)

- Re-opened to request removal of TFD notice I think there's a strong WP:IAR argument to be made here to remove the TFD notice from the template. Infobox character is used across 7,600+ articles (i.e., pretty much every fictional character article on Wikipedia) though if you look at the Merge request, it is essentially a request to delete {{Infobox Transformers character}} and replace with Infobox character instead. No change is proposed to Infobox character. The merger request should've been opened as a deletion request instead, and there is no reason to display the TFD notice across 7,600+ articles when the only thing being discussed is to whether to delete a different niche, spinoff infobox. Such a notice is also misleading since Infobox character isn't going anywhere. Satellizer el Bridget (Talk) 02:27, 30 August 2023 (UTC)

Suggestion: Add a "voice_first" parameter to swap positions of voice and portrayer parameters for predominantly animated characters edit
I noticed that the infoboxes for some of the articles for specific SpongeBob SquarePants characters (i.e. Mrs. Puff, Mr. Krabs, Pearl Krabs, Squidward Tentacles, and Plankton and Karen) are using custom label/data parameters to swap the positions of the "Voiced by" and "Portrayed by" in the infoboxes, so that way their voice actors are listed before their Broadway musical actors.
While I find the use of custom label/data parameters to be an improper way to add already established parameters to an infobox, I do see why whoever did this has done so. SpongeBob is a predominantly animated franchise first and foremost, yet listing a predominantly animated character's actor(s) from just one specific live-action spin-off before their voice(s) in the infobox doesn't feel right.
I suggest that a special "voice first" parameter be added to the infobox so that way voice actors can be listed first without the need of using any custom label/data parameters to do so. I added a voice_first
parameter to the sandbox template using #switch
expressions to swap the label and data positions for voice
and portrayer
, effectively swapping the parameters' rows, and successfully tested the parameter over on the testcases page.
So should the voice and portrayer positions be made swappable for animated (and likely also some video game) characters? –WPA (talk) 05:17, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
Please enable the different parameters home and origin to be used at the same time edit
Right now only one can be chosen to be displayed into a given Infobox, which is irrationally limiting. For example Superman's origin is Krypton but his home is Metropolis - but only either of these parameters can be used at the same time, instead of both. 5.173.80.72 (talk) 10:25, 24 May 2024 (UTC)
