Template talk:Governance of Palestine from 1948

Merging with History of Palestine template

Since there is no consensus for any direction on this template and considering the recent approval of state status by the state of Palestine, i propose to remerge this newly created template (created by user Emmette Hernandez Coleman a few weeks ago) into the Template:History of Palestine. The long existing "History of Palestine" template is presenting the Palestinian Arab national flag and hence is naturally belonging to the State of Palestine issue. • Strong Oppose That template about the History of the Palestine region ("the geographic region in Western Asia between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River, and various adjoining lands."). This template is about the history of the Palestinian territories ("West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip"). That would be like merging {{History of Korea}} and {{History of South Korea}} (and of coerce the Palestinian territories is not 100% identical to South Korea, I never said it was). Also the appropriate venue for this discussion is WP:TFD. With recent RM of Palestine we may need to rename {{History of Palestine}} to {{History of Palestine (region)}} tough. {{History of Korea}} doesn't have a national flag of one of Koreas, while there is an Arab flag on the "History of Palestine" template. Not the same.Greyshark09 (talk) 22:47, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

  • The Palatine article is about the region not the state, by your standered Talk:Palestine#Requested_move would have resulted in the article being moved. Aslo that's not an argument for merging the templates (Palestine and the Palestinian territories/State of Palestine are not the same thing), that's an argument for moving History of Palestine and {{History of Palestine}} to History of Palestine (region), but again the "Palestine" RM failed. • Comment - Greyshark09 is wrong in its statement - the State of Palestine has a "state status" since 1988 and is recognized as such by over 100 states since decades. Nothing has changed recently, only the PLO UN observer delegation present there since 1974 was changed into SoP UN observer delegation. That is NOT related in any way with the "Governance of Palestine (region)" or "Governance of Palestinian territories" since the SoP has no control over any territory. Israel (the controlling power/occupier/etc. according to the international community) is obviously not part of the SoP and also Hamas and PNA (local administrations allowed to operate there by Israel) are not related to SoP. Also, what most people think of "Palestine" are multiple things as you can see at Palestine (disambiguation). Japinderum (talk) 09:30, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
• Oppose - this template deals with the history of governance of the current Palestinian territories, the WB and Gaza parts of Palestine (region) as cut per the 1948/1967 borders - the same borders that many states now say recognize as borders that the State of Palestine should have if/when it finally gets some territory. The current contrast deals mostly with the time after WWII and most of the articles it links are directly related to the present setup. In contrast the "History of Palestine" template deals also with many more ancient times. Japinderum (talk) 07:20, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Even the links to ancient times deal specifically with the ancient West Bank and ancient Gaza Strip, not with ancient Palestine in general. Emmette Hernandez Coleman (talk) 08:06, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
