speculation

Zagros & Ziggurat are etymologically related, perhaps from Sumerian Zu-Kur = "Distant-Mountain".

This is pure speculation. Wikipedia requires proper sourcing.

highest peak?

Found the following contradicting information:

• The highest point in the Zagros range is Mt. Dena at 5098 m/16998 feet
• The highest point of the range is Zard Kuh (4548 metres)
• The second highest peak is named Dena.

Etymology

"Other explanations deriving the name from ... are invalid." Tough call. Experts on the matter may agree, but since this is not an expert's forum, a bold statement like this must be sourced. As in inline-citation, preferably. Regards, --G-41614 (talk) 07:19, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Statement on etymology was deleted. Someone had stated that it was of Greek origin but no citations were given. There are multiple claims to the matter so it is best not to speculate and certainly not to make a bold statement as to origins without evidence.

Note under Frisk Etymological English (referring to Hjalmar Frisk's etymological dictionary on Greek), it mentions that Zagreus is Pre-Greek and is possibly related to the Zagros mountains in terms of linguistics. This likely won't budge the person in charge of the article on the matter, but it seems at least noting in the talk section should someone find a better source. Personally, I can't find a direct source of Frisk's dictionary in English nor can I read German, so I'll leave that to someone who can. Ignorantoftheshow (talk) 09:26, 20 January 2020 (UTC)

Transliterations

I agree with you. Having the non-English name in a non-Latin alphabet does nothing for the article. For non-English readers, the entirety of the content is not in their language. For English readers, there is no clue as to pronunciation, let alone meaning, in the non-English language. A few articles have both transliteration and literal translation, but they are still the exception.--Quisqualis (talk) 07:12, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Zagros Mountains

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Zagros Mountains's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Deforestation in Turkey?

Hello @Elinruby: - I am not saying you are wrong but could you add a cite to the article to support you adding the article to the above category?
