The section on evolution in Persia to Farahvar appears to be speculative, and the facts seem to contradict it. Please refer to "Treasury Relief" of Dariush which clearly shows both the winged disk (or sun) and the Farahvar. 72.205.33.200 (talk) 15:30, 19 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sol suus edit

It appears in reliefs with Assyrian rulers and in Hieroglyphic Anatolian as a symbol for royalty, transcribed into Latin as SOL SUUS (literally, "his own self, the Sun", i.e., "His Majesty").

Who transcribed this into Latin? Ancient Romans? European Assyriologists? --Error (talk) 21:24, 21 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Semi-protected edit request on 29 July 2017 edit

In this paragraph:

From roughly 2000 BC, the symbol also appears in the Levant and Mesopotamia and Asia Minor. It appears in reliefs with Assyrian rulers and in Hieroglyphic Anatolian as a symbol for royalty and to depict the god Ashur, transcribed into Latin as SOL SUUS (literally, "his own self, the Sun", i.e., "His Majesty")

A blocked editor added "and to depict the god Ashur", which is nonsense. Ashur was a man, not a God. 2602:304:788B:DF50:8CDD:5461:389A:631B (talk) 17:24, 29 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

US Air Force insignia edit

In the paradigm of "Be bold", I have added a note under the section "Insignia" about the resemblance of the US Air Force insignia to the Winged Sun. Before knee-jerk reverting, let's discuss it. Consider the fact that USAF uses various similar insignia where the bars are definitely wings. See <https://www.google.com/search?q=US+air+force+insignia>. Symbolism varies with the beholder, so I have tried to word this note in neutral, factual terms. Friendly Person (talk) 21:01, 16 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Merge proposal edit

I propose merging Ancient Egyptian winged sun into Winged sun. I think the content in Ancient Egyptian winged sun can easily be explained in the context of Winged sun, and a merge would not cause any article-size or weighting problems in Ancient Egyptian winged sun.PepperBeast (talk) 21:08, 22 July 2023 (UTC) @RileyXeon, AmusingWeasel, Lira Rakshit, SonOfBabylon1, and Quel2324:Reply

Since there were no objections, I've completed the merge. PepperBeast (talk) 23:51, 17 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
