Summary edit

The summary is a bit wordy with very long sentences. Can this be simplified? Also, be careful to avoid original research. Midnightdreary 20:43, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Mount Yaanek edit

Mount Yaanek, with its "sulphurous currents" in the "ultimate climes of the pole," is actually Mount Erebus, a then newly discovered volcano in Antarctica.

I haven't read Meyers' book (quoted as a source), but this sentence sounds really bad, as at most it's inspired by it or Poe is using it as a poetical reference. Boreal, in any case, means "of the north", and Mt. Erebus is in the opposite hemisphere (Antarctica). Who is like God? (talk) 21:59, 31 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Media edit

MTV Ulalume Halloween music festival announced. Should it be mentioned? --DMP47 (talk) 17:40, 6 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Do you think it should be? If so, why? Personally, I don't see much value added to this article if it was added. --Midnightdreary (talk) 13:09, 11 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
Well, it certainly must be named after this (considering Poe is a classic, etc). I'm not really sure. --DMP47 (talk) 22:52, 11 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
"It certainly must be..." implies this is original research, unless this is provable, which adds another potential problem. --Midnightdreary (talk) 03:06, 12 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
I am merely recommending that this possible connection is looked up. The amount of hassling a person has to go through just to kindly recommend something on the site these days...Surely Wikipedia is not only losing its tenor in society, but in my own mind. --DMP47 (talk) 21:39, 4 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
Sorry you're so disappointed - your kindly recommendation went right through without hassle. However, the other side of a recommendation is that it just might not be approved by others. I'm not giving you my personal opinion here, I'm merely pointing out the policies which dictate our actions here on Wikipedia. I didn't write any of them. --Midnightdreary (talk) 00:44, 5 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I see. Thank you, and I apologize sincerely if I have offended you in any sort of fashion. My head is frequently muddled with stress and whatnot, and I have to be careful. --DMP47 (talk) 21:27, 8 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Punctuation edit

Should I go through the article and place all of the quotations' periods and commas inside of the ending quotation marks?Lestrade (talk) 17:46, 20 January 2013 (UTC)LestradeReply

Not necessarily. Wikipedia style guide uses "logical quotes" in articles. Unless the punctuation is literally part of the quote, the quotations go outside. In the case of, say, the lede which lists several poems, it is correct as it is (currently reads such as "The Raven", "Annabel Lee", and "Lenore"). I seem to recall the Manual of Style used to be a bit clearer but here's all I found: MOS:LQ. I hope that helps. --Midnightdreary (talk) 19:22, 20 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Allusions edit

The line "where the worm never dies" is a reference to Mark 9:48, which essentially states that sinners never die, but live in a constant state of suffering. Is this appropriate for the Allusions section?75.81.48.138 (talk) 19:09, 3 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

That would be cool to add, but we have to find a published source that makes the connection between the verse and Poe's work. Our own connections are not allowed per policy on original research. --Midnightdreary (talk) 13:41, 4 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
