The Main Commission for the Investigation of Nazi Crimes in Poland edit

A summary document published in Warsaw, 1983, by the Main Commission for Investigation of Nazi Crimes in Poland 1945-1982 bears the name Stanisław Kania on the title page. Can we determine if this is the same individual as this page? If so, can material be included on his involvement with the Commission's activities and findings? A copy of the document is included in Holdings Registry file No. 18885 in the Ghetto Fighters' House Archives, in Polish with an introduction in English and German. -- Deborahjay (talk) 12:45, 8 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

I assume you are talking about this book: [1] / [2]. I am having trouble finding information about the author, but I'd be cautious to attribute the authorship to him. If we look at [3] there is a number of books attributed to "Stanisław Kania" (sadly, worldcat is bad at disambiguation, and has many duplicates); Google Books is no better. Polish Wikipedia has an entry on a chess player of the same name, I googled a priest ([4]), a search for "Stanisław Kania" filolog reveals there is (was?) a PhD linguist of that name, from Zielona Góra (also mentioned here). There are also signs that (another?) dr. hab. Stanisław Kania (mentioned here) is the author of the historical books (he is mentioned as an author of an article in WOJSKOWY PRZEGLĄD HISTORYCZNY 3, 1974 - link on a Polish auction website will expire). Unfortunately, I cannot find anything more about the author of those historical books (there are several). I cannot rule out that the politician Kania had a second, less famous career as a historian, but I cannot find anything to confirm it, neither, and in lieu of reliable sources I'd default to saying that there is (was) a little know historian of the same name. Perhaps somebody else will have more luck? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 17:04, 8 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
[OP]: In raising this matter, rather than impute this (or another) S.K.'s authorship of historical works, I would be interested in knowing whether there's evidence of his involvement with the Commission, in its work, or alternatively, was tapped to sign off on the report as a prominent political figure. Does his page in the Polish Wikipedia indicate any of this? -- Deborahjay (talk) 20:07, 10 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
