So many uses of first citation edit

Is it necessary to have the first citation all over the page? I'm sure that less usage of it would be fine.Captain cornflakes (talk) 20:43, 14 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Move discussion in progress edit

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Curiosity rover which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 03:47, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Photosynthesis on Mars edit

I knew Sojourner uses solar power. [It should've had a (ReChargable) battery.] It should be useful as a plant-carrier. That way we can replace CO2 with Oxygen... Photosynthesis! As long as the rover goes from east to west, and a Mars explorer keeps watering the plant, it will survive with everything it needs to make its own food. --Brainiac Amin (talk) 12:31, 3 December 2013 (UTC)Brainiac AminReply

Could add edit

More on the Warm Electronics Box (and its content) and the laser stripe obstacle detection - covered in eg Stone, H. W. (1996). Thanks! I've added more info about WEB. Artem.G (talk) 09:31, 14 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Reliable source for TBBT episode edit

Hi Nikkimaria (talk · contribs)! Is Screen Rant appears to be reliable so the fact that the rover was in the TBBT could stay in the article? [1] And I don't really see why is it a problem - it's not some controversial subject, it's in the episode, and everybody can check it simply by watching it. Artem.G (talk) 05:48, 12 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Artem.G, this RfC concluded that a source proving only that such a reference exists is not sufficient for inclusion - we need a reliable secondary source demonstrating its significance to the article topic. As to the source you propose, as per WP:RSP it is considered marginal. Nikkimaria (talk) 11:53, 12 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! I was not aware that such list of sources exists. But, in your opinion, is this source enough to include TBBT to this article? I'm not completely ok with any entries to "In Popular Culture" sections, because, f.e. Robot Hall of Fame is in the article, though there were millions more viewers of the TBBT series than people who know that this Hall of Fame exists. So in this case I'm not sure, these series were popular and the rover was indeed mentioned, but how should the importance of it be measured? Artem.G (talk) 15:02, 12 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
I happen to think the RHoF sourcing also needs improvement, but in broader terms: the theory from that RfC was that if a mention of the subject is truly significant, there would be sourcing demonstrating that. Imagine for example as a gold standard a high-quality source saying "Most people recognize the rover because it was featured in this TBBT episode" or something to that effect. The Screenrant source demonstrates that the mention exists; I'm not sure it demonstrates significance. Nikkimaria (talk) 21:12, 12 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
It's reasonable, thanks! But again, is there any source saying "Most people recognize Sojourner because it was included into Robot Hall of Fame"? (I have no problem with it, I just think that it is a good example). So significance is still relative, though I understand what you mean. Artem.G (talk) 05:48, 13 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Dump of possible sources edit

Dead link edit

Hi Diannaa (talk · contribs)! Thanks for adding PD notice, I wasn't aware of this. But the link you've added "Mars Pathfinder PIP (Continued - Part 2/3)" seems to be dead with no archived version. So maybe the previous ref would be ok? Can you please share where did you find it? Artem.G (talk) 14:39, 20 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

I'm having no problems accessing it. Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 14:41, 20 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
I've checked it under the US VPN and it works! Sorry for that and thanks for the source :) Artem.G (talk) 14:46, 20 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Because you mentioned the lack of an archive link, I had Internet Archive create one and added it to the ref. Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 14:52, 20 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a lot! It was just strange to me that NASA's page can be opened only with US IP address, it never happened before. Artem.G (talk) 15:07, 20 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Both http and https versions of the url work fine for me also. Thanks for adding the archive url, that's a good idea regardless.— Diannaa (talk) 18:51, 20 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Sojourner is a robotic Mars rover that landed in Ares Vallis, a channel in the Chryse Planitia region, on July 4, 1997. Sojourner was operational on Mars for 92 sols (95 Earth days). It was the first wheeled vehicle to rove on a planet other than Earth and formed part of the Mars Pathfinder mission. This panoramic photograph is formed of various images of Sojourner taken by the Mars Pathfinder lander, composited into a 360-degree image referred to by NASA as the "presidential" panorama. Since the camera's position was consistent, it is possible to see these images of the rover in the context of the entire landscape.
