wow. this is one of the most opinionated entries i've ever seen. and just flat out WRONG. Shadowthrone doesn't sound ANYTHING like DMT. The vocals are different, the riffs are more Viking metal oriented, I could go on.

Agreed. Since when is Rebel Extravaganza urban? The Author makes it sound like it's a rap album.

Black Metal, Thrash

Could Satyricon be called a black metal band with thrash influences? I know black metal evolved out of thrash but they have black vocals and lyrics, with thrashy/black music. To me their music isn't as heavy as other black metal CD's In Flames 17:27, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Origin of “Satyricon”

Did Satyricon name themselves after the Roman Novel? If so, why, if not what were they named after? Please either put into Wiki page or reply here and I/someone else will. Thanks (Maverician)

Genre debate

we need to have a conversation about the genre of Satyricon here. There first few albums were definitely black metal, but should we also mention the medieval metal part? I'm not sure they have enough of the "medieval" folk sound to put that genre in. Also, as everyone already knows they now have a more rock oriented black metal, and how are we to mention that? I gotta say I respect the rock oriented black metal, but as catchy as some of the songs were on their newer stuff, Satyricon just doesn't seem to be doing it right. I mean they say they were inspired by Venom to do the rock oriented black metal, but Venom, in my opinion, did it fucking right and no one can come close. They were still more black metal than rock, though. They never lost the black metal sound and Satyricon is kinda gearing more towards the rock side, which is not neccesarily good, albeit "catchy." Medieval metal

Is there any evidence anywhere that a black metal subgenre known as medieval metal even exist? The article for medieval metal on wikipedia specifically talks about a german folk metal scene with bagpipes and other medieval instruments. It's light happy music. Nothing black metal-ish about medieval metal groups like Subway to Sally. So what's with this claim here that Satyricon started a black metal subgenre known as medieval metal? Now, Diabolical

The following part doesn't make any sense:

In 2006, the band released a new studio album, Now, Diabolical. The album has generated a great degree of controversy in the black metal underground, due to its straightforward, "radio-friendly" take on the genre. The album is selling well, however, even outside of black metal circles.

I understand what you are saying, but I believe the "however" is there because most real black metal fans would be opposed to a "radio friendly" album and therefore may not buy it. So they are saying that despite that fact it sold well. Blizzard Beast ^$ODIN$ 21:30, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

there is some info of this EP on the official website, including the album cover and tracklist. someone with a few minutes to spare and knowledge can please create the my skin is cold EP

I've just rewritten the section about members of the band based on (my own) article at dawiki. I'm planning to continue with the rest of the article, so please don't bitch about lack of citations yet. Also, I'm aware that I replaced a great deal of information, but that was all wrong - written by someone who mixed up official, unofficial, touring and session musicians. Genre

The genre "black metal" was already in the article, however I provided a reference for it from a publication in a commercial magazine, many can dispute that, but at least it has an actual published reference, the reference also covers the comparison with Cradle Of Filth who followed the band by also signing for a major label later on. Both bands were categorized under the same genre.

You have to remember that the main genres in metal are heavy, thrash, power, death, gothic, black, doom and industrial. Stuff like "Symphonic, Melodic, Progressive, Speed, Neoclassical, Ambient, Electro, Folk, Epic, etc." are just attributes to the genre, but they cannot change it, the genre remains the same because they do not constitute the genre itself. The only one that can really be both would have to be viking.
