Great idea edit

What a great idea for a page! This is extraordinarily useful to me as a beginning designer! --141.211.121.14 17:13, 29 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

a thought for categorization edit

It would be useful if the images themselves were categorized, so Wikipedia could generate a gallery. For example, if the name_font.svg files were all in one category, the name_sample.svg files in another, etc. This assumes that all these examples have been created with a consistent weight and point size so that visual comparisons would be meaningful. ⇔ ChristTrekker 21:16, 8 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

It would also be useful if one could visually compare glyphs from different fonts, side-by-side. Say for example your design requires a large footprint typeface; thus lowercase o, a, e are important, and you need to compare those letters visually in different font families, to pick the largest one. There is no way that any comparison can be made using this document, given the existing vertical isolation of font families, and discordant re-sizing of large font samples proportional to cell-size!

A font comparison tool would be optimal, where visitor-typed text samples of chosen document fonts, can then be viewed side-by-side. Failing that essential comparison tool, at least a cascade of document fonts, one font-per-line, all same size (say 16pts), without images or other distractions. With improved comparison, this document can move beyond educational poster art to a useful typographic aide. Incidentally, loading fonts into InDesign, Word or Pages is challenged by built-in 'smoothing algorithms, that also distort browsers. None-the-less, the effort on this document would be appreciated. ⇔ MarkStewart 20:10, 5 January 2018 (PST)

Rotis edit

I like the idea, but what is the Rotis Sans specimen doing on this page? --DarTar (talk) 21:39, 24 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with File:Anniehallwindsor.png edit

The image File:Anniehallwindsor.png is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --11:34, 2 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Part of a set of Samples of typefaces edit

Oppose deletion This list of display typefaces is part of a set of lists, and should not be deleted. There is certainly room for improvement in every one of these lists, including much missing information, but the samples are useful for webmasters. Here is the rest of the set:

This list is not an orphan, there are several links to it, including the ones above. --DThomsen8 (talk) 22:07, 10 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Oppose deletion I find this list useful. Diego Torquemada (talk) 01:56, 11 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I also oppose deletion. It is not an orphan, I use the following links to access it: Serif-List of typefaces-Samples of Serif typefaces. Woody-nl50 (talk) 04:46, 11 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Strongly oppose Why is this article not listed on its proposal date? Why is this discussion not taking place in the usual location? This article provides illustration for serif without adding clutter there. ⇔ ChristTrekker 19:47, 14 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

It's not an AfD. Darrenhusted (talk) 20:46, 14 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Strongly oppose de-orphan the article and improve it, do not delete. --Fremte (talk) 03:44, 16 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ron Carpenter (designer) edit

Macmillan, Neil (2005). Designing Type. New Haven: Yale University Press. ISBN 0300111517.

I plan to write an article on Ron Carpenter (designer), but not within the next week or so. Other editors interested in the subject should go ahead if they want something quicker. --DThomsen8 (talk) 10:57, 28 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Baskerville edit

I noticed that the example for Baskerville (the first image) is actually Baskerville Old Face and not the original Baskerville. Maybe a little nitpicky, but there are subtle differences (and I unfortunately don't know how to fix it). Tim D (talk) 18:21, 29 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thank you edit

To the editors of this page: this is a delightful and instructive article. Thank you, from a satisfied reader, Tim riley talk 15:54, 28 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
