Both the French and the Dutch versions link to empty pages. Is this an instance of them linking to the wrong page, or should these references be removed. I doubt that there is a specific translation of Safari into one of these languages. --snoyes 06:58 Feb 21, 2003 (UTC)

I was thinking of adding:

• a subscription service for electronic access to books; see http://proquest.safaribooksonline.com.

However, this seems to be a bit commercial. Is this acceptable or not? I wanted to know what it was, and WikiPedia didn't have it, but I don't want WP to become a collection of advertisements for commercial products. Map

What is the relevance of an 1890 map of Africa? I suggest that it be removed, unless its relevance to the article is explained. Kemet 16:49, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

A map of 1890 Africa was place in the article because that is when Westerners going to Africa took up the word "safari". The map, when clicked through, shows the geopolitics when safaris where all the rage in the West. The map also saves this article from being misunderstood by Wikipedians (and by extrapolation readers) whose first thought about "safari" is actually a secondary or tertiary usage. Move

Safari → Animal viewing — I suggest to move to move the article either to animal viewing or Game drive. The word Safari really only means voyage in swahili (as explained) and logically speaking, actually only that word. When used as a term for animal viewing, the animal viewing or animal observation name is best used (this could also expand scope for the article as viewing animals in zoo can be added, allowing a division as viewing in natural habitat, viewing in urban environment. Oppose. What "safari" means in Swahili or any other language than English is irrelevant. In English it means exactly what the article is about. Also, the most common name for this activity is definitely "safari", not the proposed title. Jafeluv (talk) 08:16, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Oppose - Safari is accurate english terminology for the subject, the others are neologisms and imprecise in the extreme. "Animal viewing" - in a zoo? on TV? in the wild? An article about how animals see the world? "Game drive" - driving game out of cover for hunting? A charity event to collect games for underpriviliged children? Hiking, camping

It should be noted that animal viewing can be done either via a trip with 4x4 personal ground vehicles, campers or on foot. All 3 types are guarded (masai follows the trip).
