This article should be reworked to focus on the rule as it is today followed by so many orders (which themselves should be listed), and talk about the source documents in a history section. --92.142.59.19 (talk) 00:26, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
- Agreed. As it stands, the article is a direct copy of the Rule's entry in the Catholic Encyclopedia (see http://oce.catholic.com/index.php?title=Rule_of_Saint_Augustine), which is public domain. It could do with a good amount of rewording to make it a bit more a) modern and b) NPOV PRB (talk) 11:15, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Council of Lateran (1059) edit
According to Lateran council, the first one was in 1123. The article on the First Council of the Lateran makes no mention of any preceding council in 1059. Does anyone know the truth behind this 1059 Council (typo? homonymous, unrelated council?) PRB (talk) 13:11, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
- The First Council is correct in that it was the first ecumenical council held there. Such an assembly has supreme weight in the Catholic Church. What the gathering in 1059 probably was would be better described as a Synod, especially since it notes that the Eastern bishops were already attending a Council called in Constantinople when this one took place. Unfortunately, possibly someone who didn't know the difference had searches for Synod go to Council. Classifications for this era are tricky, though, and out of my area of expertise.Daniel the Monk (talk) 02:53, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
