Big revert, 19:24, 24 Jun 2005 edit

I reverted the major additions by A.K.A.47 and 213.122.92.235. The latter's additions, though worthy enough in themselves, more-or-less repeated what was already in the article, but in a less encyclopaedic -- especially Wikipedic -- style. A.K.A.47 just added a link that was already there and an amusing though not very important anecdote. --Lancevortex 18:29, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Racism edit

it should not be called a controversy - the man is a racist — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2607:FEA8:61F:EB8A:6405:26:20B8:8427 (talk) 12:31, 24 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Just to add to the whole racist theme... he once said,

“I can’t understand why there is such a population problem in China as they have the best contraception going — Chinese women are the ugliest in the world.”

see - http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2005032307,00.html

...and that's why it's already in the article. It's useful to read the article before suggesting additions. --Lancevortex 14:29, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

That was actually written in his autobiography, so the article stating January 2005 is factually incorrect as I read this in his book years before.

About his Totti comment, wasn't it because he's jealous of Totti like all English?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.16.110.62 (talk) 17:52, 7 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Big Ron edit

These negative statements about him really need to be sourced. I've left them in for now, and I can remember most of them myself. Can someone with the time and inclination go through and source them, please? --Guinnog 20:48, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

The 'Ronglish' Section edit

Would you say that 'Ronglish' terms are really appropiate in an encyclopedic article, and perhaps a passing reference to the term 'Ronglish', referenced with the List of Ronglish terms on a different site would be better? 90.242.19.51 15:20, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Deleted Kettering Director of Football in succession box edit

I removed the post of Director of Football at Kettering from the succession box. Directors of Football in general aren't notable (other than former managers or players), much less the director of football at a non-league club. Thus, while Big Ron himself is notable, the post isn't, and it would be unlikely that either the previous or next man in the job would be notable enough for Wikipedia. Furthermore, 'Director of Football' itself is non-standard as the post does not exist at many clubs. Big Ron's appointment to, and departure from the post is sufficiently covered and referenced in the article. --Jameboy 18:57, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Middle name edit

I have not found a source to back up 'Frederick' as his middle name; the edit was originally made by an I.P. user, with no citation or edit summary provided, and this has stood unchallenged for some time. I have however just found a printed source that has him as 'Ronald Franklin Atkinson' and am amending and citing accordingly. Happy to revert back if presented with reliable evidence to the contrary though. --Jameboy 22:19, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

www.PlayerHistory.com has his middle name as 'Frederick' - I have added a footnote about this. Not sure which is correct, Franklin or Frederick. --Jameboy 21:32, 14 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Removal of Ronglish edit

The following was removed by an IP user as not encyclopedic. I actually think that, if properly cited, it could go back in. --Jameboy 11:52, 19 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • lollipop: a trick performed by a player, often a winger, consisting of passing the foot over the ball in an attempt to fool an opposition defender (from rhyming slang "lollipop stick" - "trick")

  • reducer: a firm tackle made early in the game to reduce a skilled player's contribution
  • Hollywood ball: an overambitious pass
  • spotter's badge: plaudit given to a player who has made an accurate, insightful pass to an unmarked player, often leading to an attempt on goal
