I believe that the main title (Opus Angelicum) is actually erroneous; Opus Anglicanum redirects to Opus Angelicum, but Opus Anglicanum seems to be generally more accepted as correct. It's latin, referring to England, not to angels.

Opus Anglicanum is correct name for this style of work as it translates to either 'work of the English' or 'English work'. England was the main centre of excellence for this form of embroidery. While the Angleicum is a papal pun, this type of embroidery is more likely to be catalogued in papal accounts as opus anglicanum. It should also be noted that although most of the surviving pieces are of sacred subjects, royal household accounts have shown a wide variety of secular items were also commissioned in this style.
