Balance, please!

Folks, let's try to keep things in perspective.

By all means, mention that Flying J has its corporate headquarters in Ogden. But this doesn't belong in the opening paragraph! A new section on business and commerce might be a good idea, if someone is up to writing it. Otherwise it could just be put under Sites of Interest for the time being.

Amy Wicks

In regard to the recent question: Who is Amy Wicks? Former council chair, current council member. If I'm not mistaken, the council currently consists of: Caitlin Gochnour, Chair, Susie Van Hooser, Vice Chair, Amy Wicks, Bart Blair, Brandon Stephenson, Doug Stephens, and Neil Garner. Council Member Amy Wicks: Amy Wicks has lived in Ogden since 1997. She was elected to the Ogden City Council in November of 2003 as one of three members representing the City At Large. In 2006 and 2007, she was elected vice chair of the Council. In 2008 and 2009, she was elected to serve as Council Chair.

Crime

Why do you think there has been a growth of crime in Ogden? The statistics I've seen show that crime has declined, and it's definitely lower than the national average. GreenGlass^(talk) 00:04, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

Objective Treatment of Politics

On September 16, 2011, Iloveogden replaced my earlier paragraph about Ogden's political factions with a paragraph bragging about the current mayor's accomplishments. I've just removed that paragraph and replaced it with two new paragraphs of factual information about Ogden government, the RDA, and various political controversies. Wikipedia isn't the place for one-sided praise of politicians, and the Iloveogden's references failed to establish most of the claims being made. Also, with the mayor not running for another term, focusing on issues rather than individuals is more appropriate at this time. Twobitter (talk) 12:34, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

I agree. Arthurjerry added some back in today, and it's definitely not NPOV. If we allowed two paragraphs of starry-eyed praise for Godfrey, we'd have to allow a dissenting voice too (of which there are many). Better just to stick with the important facts. I did, but it should be noted that Utah English has the cot–caught merger, so it's a matter of opinion which vowel symbol to start with. Ntsimp (talk) 23:50, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

While reading the talk page today I came across this section. Since I'm from Weber county I'm already caught it the pronunciation merger. However, I have a convenient native-born and raised up-state New Yorker (at work) where the merger hasn't yet taken place. I had him pronounce four of the word pairs given on the merger page so that I could hear the difference, and I can hear the difference. The preponderance of the pronunciation of Ogden is as cot, though I think that I have heard (a very minor percentage, if at all) as ɔɡdɛn. I used 'cot' in the previous sentence because the cot–caught merger page gives both /ɒ/ (opening paragraph) and /ɑ/ (General American Phonemes) for the pronunciation of the vowel in 'cot'. City-Data.com not good source

It is cited to support religious demographics. This is considered poor practice. City-Data gives Dale E. Jones 2002, Religious Congregations & Membership in the United States, 2000 on Association of Religious Data Archives [website] (http://www.thearda.com/rcms2010/rcms_notes.asp) as their source; cite this directly. Unfortunately the figures are for Weber County, not Ogden, which differs from the county as a whole. ARDA is a religious interest which could call it into question, yet the Census Bureau doesn't collect this data. Eliminating the table in favor of a brief narrative description of religious affairs would strengthen the article.--Jessegalebaker (talk) 02:53, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
