Population edit

Someone changed the population to 234,000. I reverted it back to the 2009 census estimate of 4,134. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.196.160.175 (talk) 15:17, 10 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Honestly, this article needs serious editing. It has some serious flaws, most notably: a) a persistent attempt by vandals to change the town's population, census data, etc. to ridiculous figures; as well as list fictional buildings, sports stadiums, etc. And, b) much of the article appears to have been written by the town's public-relations booster, and contains much information that is POV and not appropriate for an encyclopedia format. A few examples include mentioning local residents by name and their various awards ("Julius "Jay" Howell was recognized as the NC Small Business Administration...", etc.) and promotional statements for local businesses and organizations ("WCS is committed to excellence in teaching and the belief that all students can learn"). The article is filled with similar non-neutral, POV statements. I have tried editing these problems a couple of times but they always seem to return. I would suggest that a registered wiki user with some editing experience may want to try his/her hand at fixing these problems and creating a more presentable and appropriate encyclopedia-style article. Just a thought. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.145.229.162 (talk) 01:41, 4 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

You are right. Will see what I can do. Don't know that we can do a whole lot about the person hopping around to different IP addresses and vandalizing the pages, though. Thank you for your interest. -- JoannaSerah (talk) 22:22, 20 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! I would try to make some of the changes myself, but I suspect that Cresix or another editor might delete them since I'm not a registered Wiki user/editor. It would probably be best for an experienced, registered editor like yourself to do it. You've already done a great job monitoring/editing the Wilkes-related articles! I grew up in North Wilkesboro (don't live there anymore), and it was a great little town at the time (now that nearly all of the factories have closed it's gotten worse, imo). However, this article really does read as if the town's PR person wrote most of it, and it's far too promotional to be an objective encyclopedia-format article. Good Luck! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.145.229.162 (talk) 03:10, 28 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Incorrect Educational Information? edit

The article includes a long paragraph about Wilkes Community College, yet the college is located in Wilkesboro, not North Wilkesboro, and thus shouldn't be featured in the article. Also, no mention is made of the elementary and middle schools that serve the town. I have deleted the Wilkes Community College article (for the reasons listed above) and included the more relevant elementary and middle school information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.154.64.244 (talk) 18:24, 10 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Encyclopedia Article vs. Advertising edit

This article has recently been greatly expanded to include, in my opinion, a great deal of information that is more typical of advertising or personal promotion than is fitting for an encyclopedia article. Wikipedia articles are required to be "neutral", but currently this article features many sentences and words which openly promote the town and sound like something from the town's public-relations office. I would respectfully suggest that the article be revised/edited into a more neutral, encyclopedia-style format. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.145.229.162 (talk) 01:56, 29 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

You are right. Will see what I can do. -- JoannaSerah (talk) 22:22, 20 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Advertising Is Pretty Blatant edit

As noted before, this article seems quite biased as if it were written by a marketing firm. The most blatant seems to be section on healthcare which until I changed it was entitled "Affordable Healthcare". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Freber1977 (talkcontribs) 02:07, 26 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

The reason that this advertising seems blatant might have something to do with the Town of North Wilkesboro OWNING the hospital and leasing control of it to Carolinas Healthcare Systems as visible in this URL. This has been this way since the Town signed the lease in 2007.[1]

The Town turned down offers from Novant Health and Community Health Systems during late 2006 and early 2007 so that the current operating board (which answers to town officials) could remain in place thus allowing town official to maintain local control of the hospital. [2] As you can see from the information in this URL the amounts that the town turned away, Novant - $1 million annually for 30 years with $70 million in capital improvements and Community Health Systems for $51 million for the 30 year lease, and instead selecting the less amount of $350,000 a year for 30 years in order to allow local town officials to retain control would more than justify why the town would be trying to paint itself in a good light under the heading of "Affordable Healthcare". It looks like it might be written by a marketing firm or the current Business Support Recruitment and Communications Officer for the town. While doing research the aforementioned Business Support Recruitment and Communications Officer for the town is Sam Hinnant. [3] You can find his finger prints in the history of the page under the name SHinnant.
