Vandalism / accidental edits ?

The last sentence in the section "Syllable structure" reads: "They have a certain syllable in their that makes them so different". Was a word deleted after "their"? Or should that be "there"? Either way, it doesn't look like the line make much sense. 84.198.246.199 (talk) 23:23, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

percentage of speakers

This article says that in 1991 97.4% of the inhabitants spoke Niuean. The article on Niue using The World Factbook (CIA) says 11% are unilingual English speakers. The Factbook page doesn't indicate when this stat was worked out, although the page itself was updated at least in 2017. If 11% are unilingual English speakers, then at most 89% speak Nieuan (the article on the country indicates some "other languages").--Richardson mcphillips (talk) 02:14, 26 May 2019 (UTC)

"ko e vagahau Niuē"

Does this simply mean "Niuean"? which is implied by its being simply placed after the word Niuean. Does it mean "the language of Niue"? Or "what the people of Niue speak"?--Richardson mcphillips (talk) 02:20, 26 May 2019 (UTC)

"the language of Niue" and "Niuean" refer to the same entity. The first is a more literal translation of ko e vagahau Niuē but the second one would be the usual way to refer to the language in English. pne (talk) 12:39, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
