Birthdate

The birthdate of Nipsey Russell is from the records of the Social Security Administration. He (or his publicist) apparently shaved several years off his actual age. -- Walloon 18:45, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Education

Nipsey Russell claimed to have a bachelor's degree from the University of Cincinnati. However, the registrar's office at that school has confirmed to me that he was enrolled there for only one semester, the fall of 1936, and never received a degree. -- Walloon 18:45, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Military service

Nipsey Russell did enlist in the U.S. Army in 1941. He claimed to have reached the rank of captain while serving in Europe. Given his dishonesty about his age and his education, can he be trusted about this military commission? His discharge date and rank are available by a Freedom of Information Act request from the Military Records Division of the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis, Missouri. -- Walloon 21:05, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

  • Freedom of Information Act? For a TV comedian? What was he, a double agent working for the Russkies? Whatever. :) Wahkeenah 23:59, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

Quote?

Does anybody know if Nipsey Russell coined the phrase, "Once you go black, you never go back." ? — 152.163.101.10 14:17, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Age at death

External links indicate that he was 80 or 82 when he died, but his dates of birth and death at the beginning of the article indicate that he died at age 87. Should this be fixed? Hallpriest9 (Talk | Archive) 18:55, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

External links are wrong. Nipsey Russell lied about his age. Did you read the source notes here that establish his correct age? — Walloon 19:16, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Stand Up Acts + Multi-Lingual

Did Nipsey Russell have an established Stand Up comedy career (playing shows, clubs, etc.) outside of his TV spots? It happens to be that I saw him perform once at a hotel in 2002 and, given the audience was Jewish (it was a religious getaway for the holiday of Shavuos, after it ended), most of his punchlines were in the Yiddish language (I don't particularly speak it so I was in the dark on alot of it). I was urged to ask him after the show how he knew so much about Judaism and Yiddish, but didn't. A couple of years later someone told me that he lived in Brooklyn and had alot of Jewish friends. I've never attempted to try and search for any attributable source for this (I'm an expert Googler, but when it comes to finding sources, that's not always easy) but I wonder if anyone can verify his stand up career at the very least. I know I can't go and say his speaks Yiddish just because I saw him. That's as Primary source as it gets. 24.184.187.236 (talk) 17:13, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

What's My Line

The article originally stated that Nipsey Russell was on a rivival of What's My Line? Soon after the show's network cancelation (it aired at 10:30 p.m. Eastern), the show was continued in daytime syndication. The description of the show's transfer to syndication can be found in the book "What's My Line--America's Favorite Panel Show" by Gil Fates (Executive Producer of the show) in the chapter "The Impossible Takes a Little Longer". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Carterchas (talkcontribs) 05:56, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

Rhymes

The rhymes have taken over this page. One or two would be more than enough to give readers an idea of the nature of his humor. The rest should be moved to wikiquotes or a fan site. If there is no objection, I will do that. I'll come back in a month to see if anyone wants to defend all these rhyming gags. Kinston eagle (talk) 01:25, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

It has been more than a month with no objections. I will remove them now. Kinston eagle (talk) 10:00, 26 April 2013 (UTC)
