Old history (related to page move) edit

For a history before February 14, 2006, please see the history page of "Newtown, Connecticut, USA". Please follow the trend of every other town in the USA and keep this page at "Newtown (town), Connecticut". -- Smith120bh/TALK 02:56, 15 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Page Move edit

The page name Newtown (town), Connecticut is not fit for ths article, it should be Newtown, Connecticut, USA due to the various "Newtowns" throught the world See: Newtown

Please refer to Wikipedia's official policy for city naming conventions: Wikipedia:Naming conventions (city names). Countries are not included in naming. Again, please do not move articles unless you are really sure that it should be. In general, article naming is based on precedent. Look at all of the other articles in Category:Towns in the United States - none of them include ", USA". Similarly, none of the other articles in Newtown include countries in their name. This page is the appropriate location for the content about the town of Newtown in the US state of Connecticut. -- Smith120bh/TALK 02:51, 16 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Requested move edit

Newtown (town), ConnecticutNewtown, Connecticut — Towns are the primary local government unit in Connecticut. While the town center is separately incorporated as a borough, it is still subordinate to the town government. The town article deserves the principal name. --Polaron | Talk 05:26, 14 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Borough edit

What's the difference between the borough and the town? Shouldn't the boro be bigger? --AW 21:18, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

In Connecticut, boroughs are sections of towns that are separately incorporated. They are municipalities located within a larger municipality (the town). See Borough (Connecticut) for additional information. --Polaron | Talk 21:45, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

In Newtown, the Borough is just the center of town, and includes the oldest part of main street. It has different zoning laws, is served by town water, and has a sewer system. Tax rates are somewhat different too because of these benefits. It's all part of the same town though, and governed by the same authorities. Buildings in the Borough tend to be older and many are historical landmarks.71.88.34.212 (talk) 20:39, 15 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

External links section edit

At some point, for some reason not given anywhere in the edit summaries (at least not that I can find), the External links section for this article disappeared. I'm adding it back with a link to the town school system, an obviously useful link. If there are any objections to that, please discuss them here. Noroton 17:47, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Anyone know if the local accepted pronounciation is New-Town or Nu-ton? Professor water (talk) 22:47, 14 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Suzanne Collins edit

Looks like Suzanne Collins was added to this page after the tragedy, and I don't see a citation. Her own page has her hometown as Hartford. There are conspiracy theories floating around about this (trying to link the Hunger Games to the shooting), so unless someone provides a solid source I'm removing this information.Jasonnewyork (talk) 21:15, 17 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Notability of Adam Lanza edit

According to the wikipedia notability requirements, Adam Lanza does not meet the requirements and should not be listed. My edit was reverted. Discussion occurred on the page of the admin who reverted the edit, User_talk:Ohnoitsjamie#Newtown.2C_CT_page_edits, who refuses further discussion on the matter, so we are at an impasse.

Adam Lanza is a perpetrator/criminal, and according to wiki guidelines, they are not generally considered notable, and should not have their own wiki pages. Regarding lists, the wiki description says that lists follow the same rules as page creation. Adam Lanza, properly, does not have a page, but is integrated into the article on the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings, per wiki guidelines. He is not a notable person. 71.88.34.212 (talk) 18:44, 15 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Notability in Wikipedia just means that the topic has been discussed in multiple, independent third-party sources. Being listed as notable does not make any judgement on whether the subject is good or bad. Just because a person is considered to be the perpetrator of a horrific crime does not mean that the person is not notable. Quite the opposite in fact as Lanza has been talked about and analyzed in the news quite a bit making him Wikipedia-notable. --Polaron | Talk 20:13, 15 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

I've started a request for comment on the notability board on this issue. Wikipedia:Notability/Noticeboard#Notability_-_Adam_Lanza 71.88.34.212 (talk) 20:37, 15 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Jeffrey Dahmer has a wiki page. I dont see why Adam Lanza shouldn't. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.171.150.84 (talk) 18:40, 16 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Population Of Newtown edit

I checked the 2010 census, and it gives the population of Newtown, CT as 1,941:

http://www.zip-codes.com/city/ct-newtown-2010-census.asp

I checked three other sites and that figure seems to be valid. The page should be corrected to reflect the correct population. Carnival Honey (talk) 02:22, 22 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

How did Newtown experience a 93% population decline? W ASB94 (talk) 09:26, 25 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

93% population decline edit

I'm sorry, but something is clearly off about the reported population trend. How in the hell does a town that's experienced small to medium growth over the last several decades lose 93% of its residents in just two years, even in the aftermath of the Lanza shooting? 152.41.3.1 (talk) 05:12, 24 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
