In the United States from 1996 to 2001, over 500,000 volunteers wired more than 75,000 classrooms. NetDays have occurred in over thirty countries. [citation needed]

Organisers of the first European NetDay in October 1997 emphasized individual experiences at linking with schools abroad and encouraged the development of regional and local school networks.[citation needed]

On October 2003, NetDay launched the first annual Speak Up Day, an online student survey of technology use, giving a voice to other 210,000 participants from all 50 states to other stakeholders.[citation needed]

Al Gore edit

What is Al Gore's picture doing in this article? --71.139.143.118 (talk) 04:53, 5 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

He was a notable participant in the event this article describes.--NapoliRoma (talk) 07:40, 5 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
OK, didn't scroll down far enough; the picture of Clinton and Gore made sense; the Al Gore template at the bottom of the article did not.--NapoliRoma (talk) 07:51, 5 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

More Sources Needed edit

I've added more information about NetDay, from the archived version of its web site, including information on how the initiative ended. NetDay school wiring events received very heavy press coverage and were talked about on various online fora related to "tech for good" and what not back in the years events were held. A search of Google turns up a lot of archived news articles from 1996 - I'm sure there's at least some from later years, and if I have time, I'll look for such and add this source material to the page.
