Wars? edit
The title of this page, "Mughal-Maratha wars," is probably incorrect. What had existed between the declining Mughals and the early Maratha rulers was not a state of open and declared armed conflict (which is the meaning of war). It was more like occasional warfare, perhaps only skirmishes, now and then as the occasion arose. I propose that we change the name of the page to: "Mughal-Maratha hostilities in the early 18th-century." Fowler&fowler«Talk» 13:43, 31 July 2023 (UTC)

There is a simple spelling error in the third paragraph. In the sentence, " In 1689 Sambhaji was captured by the Mughals, nd executed with some cruelty.", the "nd" should be "and". Constantinople76 (talk) 20:32, 13 January 2024 (UTC)

Mughal–Maratha Wars → Deccan wars – The Maratha–Mughal Wars even extends up till the fall of the Maratha Empire in 1818, or even more than that. The conflicts between the Mughals and the Marathas between 1680 and 1707 is noted as "Deccan Wars" by historians. - Alternative Move to Deccan wars. Deccan Wars is presently a redirect to this article. WP:TITLEDAB tells us that concision is preferred over unnecessary precision. Adding a year range is unnecessary precision. Ngrams for Mughal–Maratha Wars, Deccan Wars and combined terms here indicate that the latter is the more common name. This is confirmed google scholar searchs for Mughal–Maratha Wars (52 results) and Deccan Wars (121 results). However, the results also confirm that war is commonly lowercase in both instances. Since it is not consistently capitalised in sources, war should be lowercase in both titles per WP:NCCAPS and MOS:CAPS. Cinderella157 (talk) 12:19, 19 February 2024 (UTC)

Aurangzeb's motives for invading the Deccan edit
Aurangzeb had multiple objectives for coming south with a huge force in 1681.These were:
- . To neutralize the threat from his renegade son, Akbar who was given sanctuary by Sambhaji
- . To absorb the remaining Deccan sultanates,i.e. Adilshahi, and Qutubshahi to the Mughal empire.
- . To destroy the emerging Maratha state under Sambhaji
- . To avenge Sambhaji's Sacking of Burhanpur (1681)
By changing the name from Mughal-Maratha wars to Deccan wars, we have changed the scope of the article, and therefore there should be some mention of how Aurangzeb's forces finished off the longstanding sultanates.Thanks. Jonathansammy (talk) 20:08, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
