Name of the party edit

I propose to move this page to Movement for the Autonomies, that is the correct traduction of "Movimento per le Autonomie".--Maremmano (talk) 14:27, 3 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

That would be a more literal translation, thus I agree, provided that all redirects are fixed. --Checco (talk) 14:40, 3 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Requested move 24 July 2022 edit

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Moved to Movement for Autonomy. Consensus developed to move to Movement for Autonomy, instead of the Italian name. (closed by non-admin page mover) – robertsky (talk) 15:21, 24 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Movement for the AutonomiesMovement for New Autonomy – The party was renamed "Movement for New Autonomy" in about 2020. Currently the new name is a redirect to the page, but a move would be required. This is a contested technical request (permalink). Dr. Vogel (talk) 11:49, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Hi, the text of the article, as well as the sources cited, the logo, etc., all use the old name. Dr. Vogel (talk) 10:02, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Scia Della Cometa can you point to some independant sources using the new name to show it's the new WP:COMMONNAME? -Kj cheetham (talk) 10:07, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I oppose that. I think that the Movement for New Autonomy deserves a new article, separate from Movement for the Autonomies. --Checco (talk) 10:14, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
The logo in the infobox has not been updated, but later the party adopted this ([1]) and then this symbol ([2]). Most of the page refers to the party by its old name because it was renamed in 2020: from 2020 the new name used by the party is Movimento per la Nuova Autonomia ([3], [4], [5]). And creating a new page just because a party changes its name makes very little sense to me. --Scia Della Cometa (talk) 10:17, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I'm not saying I disagree, but this should go to a full WP:RM as per WP:PCM. -Kj cheetham (talk) 10:20, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
In my opinion there was nothing controversial (it is customary to move a page when the party name changes), but since it is apparently not uncontroversial, I will make a formal request to move.--Scia Della Cometa (talk) 10:26, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment As I stated above, when a party changes its name it is customary to change the title of the page as well. In fact, there is no source on the dissolution of the "Movement for the Autonomies" and the founding of a new party called "Movement for New Autonomy", since they are practically the same party. If the proposal were rejected, the new name would remain a redirect to this page, but it doesn't seem very logical to me...--Scia Della Cometa (talk) 15:11, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Support either Movimento per la Nuova Autonomia or Movimento per le Autonomie. Not commonly seen translated into English and translation doesn't really work as it produces odd English. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:53, 27 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. The Movement for New Autonomy is the successor of the Movement for Autonomy/Autonomies, and, as we have done many times, it is better to have a separate article for the new political party for the sake of clarity. Moreover, the new party is a much smaller one if compared with the former one, thus even a joint article should not have its named changed. This said, I favour the two-article solution. --Checco (talk) 13:59, 27 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
To be clear, better the status quo than the move. And the name should continue to be in English. --Checco (talk) 14:01, 27 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • The party was re-branded Movement per l'Autonomia, its original name (see [6]). It if its moved, the new name should be either "Movement for Autonomy" or "Movement for the Autonomy"—hopefully, native English-speakers like User:Autospark will help us to sort the better name out. --Checco (talk) 20:01, 31 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Well, this confirms what I affirmed, which is that it is always the same party and that this topic should not be divided into two pages. If in the meantime there has been a further update regarding the name of the party, the page should be moved to "Movement for Autonomy". --Scia Della Cometa (talk) 12:32, 1 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I agree with Checco and SDC's conclusion of using "Movement for Autonomy" as the article title.--Autospark (talk) 15:16, 1 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
To be clear, I would be in favour of multiple articles, but I am OK with moving the article to "Movement for Autonomy" (without "the") as that is the party's original and current name, but only because of that. I am very happy the three of us agree on the issue. --Checco (talk) 06:40, 7 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • @Necrothesp in this case the Italian name as title wouldn't make much sense for two reasons: 1. "Movement for Autonomy" is the exact translation of the original name, without loss of accuracy (see WP:TRANSLITERATE); 2. "Movement for Autonomy" is widely used in the sources (see Google books).--Scia Della Cometa (talk) 21:07, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Strong support for renaming the article to "Movement for Autonomy", as per SDC.--Autospark (talk) 14:47, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
