Hi, I have removed them from the Int'l airlines and destinations because the information shown is only meant to show NON-STOP service by the airlines. Air Canada's service to these cities are via Toronto-Pearson.

Controvercy

I work at YUL and there is and has been free wifi for quite some time. I never heard about there being pay wifi. Also there are many outlets still freely avaible.

Naming

No idea why this page name had the forward slash in it. Per Aéroports de Montréal, the official name of the airport is "Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Aiport, so I moved it to that page and fixed the double (triple, actually) redirect at YUL. Basil Fawlty 02:24, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I disagree with the renaming. Nav Canada and Transport Canada use the slash consistently for Trudeau and Mirabel, as well as other airports. We should stick with the official published names and try to be consistent ourselves (i.e. Ottawa/Macdonald-Cartier International Airport). Hmm, general Wikipedia policy seems to be put at the more common name, even if it not technically the official name. That is why is the Czech Republic, and not Czechia. The WikiProject airports policy clashes slightly with this. I am undecided as to which way we should jump. Burgundavia (✈ take a flight?) 09:02, Jun 4, 2005 (UTC)

The reason that we use "the Czech Republic" in the English version of Wikipedia is that it's the English name of the country. Likewise, we use "Moscow" instead of "Moskva", "The French Revolution" instead of "La révolution française", and so on.

If we used the most common names for airports, our articles would have titles like "Pearson", "Heathrow", "JFK", "LAX" etc. (similarly, the article for Toronto would probably have the title "T.O", and the article for Los Angeles would definitely be called "L.A."). Most airport web sites are all over the place -- the full name is usually too cumbersome, so they use some kind of abbreviated form, and often several different abbreviated forms. I think that we need to treat airports the same way we treat other geographical features, and use the officially-registered name where available (i.e. Greater Sudbury). I agree entirely with this. Common names are simply too variable to be useful. In addition, the official name is definitely written with a dash, see this announcement from Trasnport Canada itself. The consensus on WikiProject:Airports seems to be that we should go with the airport authority (as we go with official names for everything else), so I don't think the slash is correct here. I'm not sure that either Transport Canada or the airport authorities are all that careful about punctuation -- it might come down to the whims of the person typing. We'll want to standardize sooner or later, to avoid inconsistencies. Where the city name is not part of the core airport name (i.e. "Lester B. Pearson International Airport"), the Canada Flight Supplement (CFS), which is the official book of airport information, always uses a slash: "Toronto/Lester B. Pearson International Airport", "Ottawa/Macdonald-Cartier International Airport", "Moncton/McEwan Airport", etc. When the core name does begin with the muncipality, there is no slash: "Vancouver International Airport", "Burlington Airpark", etc. We could use a dash or a slash, in Canadian airport names, but I don't think we should mix the two.

The Canada Air Pilot (instrument procedures) also use the slash. The U.S. Airport/Facility Directory (equivalent of CFS) uses headings and subheadings, so it's no help, but the U.S. Terminal Procedures (instrument procedures) use the slash: "Boston/General Edward Lawrence Logan International Airport", etc. It looks like the slash is the closest we have to a preferred aviation usage; it's also what all the Montreal-area airports use. Can we get some comments on the number of aircraft movements for Trudeau for 2004. My claim is that the correct number is 205,441 based on the Transport Canada Aircraft Movements, 2004.

User:Neorge claims based on Aéroports de Montréal 2004 that the correct number is 235,209. The movements are at the bottom of the page.

I feel that based on Aéroports de Montréal statement that they operate both Trudeau and Mirabel and that the 235,209 number is the total movements are for both airports added together.

• The problem with posting statistics is that you need a sound source. Local companies may not be the most reliable especially if they don't clearly state what their data covers. National Government sources are probably better because they should be using the same measurements for all airports that they report on. International agencies should also be OK since they too are comparing airports on a common footing. Having two competing sets of numbers in the article is probably not the best solution. Tarom Romanian Airlines

Again, some anonymous editor has put the "fact" that YUL is the 106th busiest airport in the world. Being 1st, 2nd, 3rd, is ok, and is thus noteworthy. However, is being 106th noteworthy as well? ADDRESS

WTH IS THE ADDRESS OF THIS AIRPORT? HOW FAR IS IT FROM DOWNTOWN??U? AND WHY THE HELL IS IT CALLED YUL?? WHAT IS CYUL???!!!!!!1

The Canada Flight Supplement say that it's "adjacent southwest" which I assume means from Dorval. YUL is the IATA airport code and CYUL the ICAO airport code. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 17:29, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

This still doesn't answer the question "How the heck did IATA manage to come up with such a codename?" For heck's sake, only the L is shared between Montreal and YUL... And for Pierre Elliott Trudeau... PET is still free, so is MPT. What could YUL possibly stand for? Your assuming that there is a logical reason for the code and that may not be true. It was CYUL/YUL before 2004 when the airport was renamed from Dorval to Trudeau in 2004. Take a look at Kugluktuk Airport which is CYCO/YCO because it used to be "Coppermine Airport" or Ulukhaktok/Holman Airport which is CYHI/YHI based on the misconception that it was "Holman Island Airport". On the other hand look at Gjoa Haven Airport which is CYHK/YHK, Edmonton City Centre (Blatchford Field) Airport CYXD/YXD orMontréal-Mirabel International Airport CYMX/YMX and there are probably many more. There's not much logical about those last three. London Heathrow Airport and London Gatwick Airport are interesting in that the IATA codes follow on from the name, LHR & LGW but the ICAO codes are EGLL & EGKK. Edits

Rewrote the first section so as to be able to remove the fact tag. I removed the sentence "The airport completed a CAD$716 million expansion plan that enables the terminal to have a capacity of 20 million passengers per year." as it's not clear when that was and it's covered later on. I removed the external link after "...contains the 2nd largest duty free shop in North America" as it only discussed Toronto so it now needs a citation. WestJet flights

The flights listed under the International concourse are not correct. They are not on the route map and you cannot book a flight to any of these locations. The source is clearly wrong. destination deletions

Since User:alexcaban reverted a couple of my deletions I'll bring them here. The Aeroméxico flights all stop in Atlanta according to Aeroméxico's flight schedule [1], the reference cited says nothing about them being non-stop. According to the airport site [2] and Air Canada [3] there is no non-stop flight to Santiago, Chile. The WestJet international destinations are an obvious error as the previous poster mentioned. Neither destination is served by WestJet at all [4]. The new flight to Buenos Aires is also on neither the airport site nor on Air Canada's site.Kmusser (talk) 03:12, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Air Canada YUL-EZE

There is indeed a direct flight from Montreal and Buenos Aires but the flight is route via YYZ. However, there is no plane change in Toronto so therefore it can be listed. I'm so damm tired of having to explain over and over that there are flights between YUL and EZE and santiago via toronto but there is no plane change and operates under the same flight number!!!! stop removing it from the list of destinations. Alexcaban

A380

Article goes on about an Air France flight in 2007. Was it a paid Air France flight? No. Was the aircraft owned by Air France? No. Were the pilots Air France? No. So why is it an Air France flight? I think it should be deleted.--Lester 10:27, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

I think there may be confusion there on the way it was written but there was Air France crew onboard according to the press release marked in reference. Kuwait Airways

Kuwait City on Kuwait Airways was added to the destinations list on July 6, 2009, with an effective date of October 18, but without any source. (See difference between versions: [5]). I don't see Montreal listed on Kuwait Airways' website, nor does it appear on QuickTrip.com for that date. I noticed that normally, unsourced destination additions werepromptly reverted but this one wasn't. In the meantime, I added a "fact" tag. AirOdyssey (Talk) 01:25, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

7.List non-stop and direct flights only. That means the flight number and the aircraft, starts at this airport and continues to one or more airports. Avoid using the description 'via' since that is more correctly listed as another destination. If passengers can not disembark at a stop on a direct flight, then do not list it as a destination or as 'via'. Direct flights are not always non-stop flights.

The same applies for YYZ-GVA/BRU. If they can be included, although the flight stops in YUL, then Iqualut and Regina count as a direct flight from YUL. Are there any cycle paths into downtown? Needs local input...I'm just a TO cyclist looking to land on the wide open streets of Montreal in a couple of weeks.

Removal of concourse listing

Hello,

I propose to remove the listing of concourses for the airlines/destinations list. YUL is not an airport with multiple terminals and has 2 "concourses" in the same terminal, A for domestic and international flights (except USA) and C for flights to the United States (U.S. Customs pre-clearance). Thus, no matter which airline, a flight for Dallas will always leave from concourse C, while a flight for Toronto or Paris will always leave from concourse A. Therefore, it's completely useless to add the concourse listings as they are not airline-specific, but rather destination-specific.

Why is it YUL?

I knows Canadian airports start with Y but why UL? Doesn’t seem to be part of the historical name or anything. AW (talk) 23:13, 3 October 2023 (UTC)

The answer can be found at IATA airport code § Canada. Unfortunately the information there doesn't have a cited source, but if we can find one then it might be good to add the information to the history section of this article. Rosbif73 (talk) 08:17, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
