Trend.az cite with regard to Madneuli part of Industrial Investors

I have removed that sentence because mineweb clearly says that this company is owned by Alasania and that the Russian company provided the financing, there is no other source that says that Madneuli is part of that group. Pocopocopocopoco 00:07, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it is owned by Alasania, but this does not prevent the company from being part of that group. I'm not into bussiness affairs and don't know much about either Madneuli or Generalov's group. However, there're plenty of sources available on the net and you could check them before removing valid info.--Kober^Talk 06:25, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Please bear in mind that the article is still in it's formative stages so we shouldn't get too uptight about what gets added and removed with each edit as long as we discuss it in talk. In terms of ownership, It can't be owned by Alasania and at the same time 97 owned by "Industry Investors" as the article is currently suggesting. Mineweb says that it's owned by Alasania and the sources you posted say that it's owned by Generalov and "Industry Investors". I think Mineweb is more reliable however they too seem to be a bit vague on the issue. I have removed the portions of the article claiming that Temur Alasania owns Madneuli. The orginal article posted on mineweb (http://www.mineweb.com/mineweb/view/mineweb/en/page34?oid=37667&sn) has been removed (most likely because it is false). Also, I cannot find any sources on Regnum that mentions Temur Alasania's name (http://www.regnum.ru/english/?10.10.2007). Hi Desmag01. I believe Mineweb only keeps its articles online for a certain period of time. It's not just mineweb but also Prime News that seems to indicate that Alasania is the owner. See here also, the Georgian opposition claims that Alasania is the owner. I wouldn't mind if we rewrote the article to say something to the effect that W and X claim that Alasania is the owner whereas Y and Z claim that Generalov is the owner. It obviously is difficult to determine who the owner is as front companies were used to purchase the mine. Pocopocopocopoco (talk) 02:08, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Of course the opposition is going to claim that Alasania owns Madneuli. It doesn't mean that it is correct. All of your listed sources cite Alansia as the owner with no evidence (just rumors), which makes them as credible as the National Enquirer. People can believe whatever they want, but it doesn't mean that it is real. If you "heard it through the grapevine" that applesauce cures cancer or that Elvis is still alive and well, you are entitled to believe it if you want. However, comments like that definitely shouldn't be posted on the Wikipedia Cancer or Wikipedia Elvis pages becaues there is no evidence. I feel that speculation without evidence is equivalent to slander (whether they are negative or positive comments). Perpetuating rumors does nothing to increase the vaildity of a statement. It only creates confusion and is potentially damaging to everyone. These other sources may think it is okay to mention people by their names and print rumors without evidence, but I think Wikipedia should steer clear of this type of activity. comment added by Desmag01 —Preceding comment was added at 03:40, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
