Move edit

Since these aren't merely descriptive terms, but designations (names), I propose this be moved to Landing Craft Tank. TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 22:42, 30 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

External links modified edit

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Landing craft tank. Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it, if I keep adding bad data, but formatting bugs should be reported instead. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:

When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true or failed to let others know (documentation at {{Sourcecheck}}).

Key info missing. edit

How many tanks (say, Sherman tanks) could one LCT ferry across the Channel? Article says complement of one LCT 2 officers and 10 enlisted men; presumably the crew of the LCT. How many men could it land? Land troops often fight alongside tanks. In addition to the tank crews, were LCTs also designed to land any ground troops? production timespan in infobox edit

seems to be wrong, if one is to believe shipbuildinghistory.com

detailed delivery stats for mk5 and mk6 for now disagree with the infobox. if someone can resolve this... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 158.181.83.72 (talk) 22:06, 19 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Surviving LCTs in US edit

FYI there is an LCT in Skagway Alaska that is used as some kind of repair vessel It shows in the harbor in a photo on opposite side of pleasure craft docks I went on it when our cruise ship visited town 2 years ago I think it is a Mark 5 96.35.60.115 (talk) 04:34, 16 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

British nomenclature edit

From the introduction: 'Initially known as the "tank landing craft" (TLC) by the British, they later adopted the U.S. nomenclature "landing craft, tank" (LCT).' No source is cited. 'Development', 2nd sentence: 'It was at the insistence of the British prime minister Winston Churchill in mid-1940 that the LCT was created. Its speed was 10 knots (19 km/h; 12 mph) on engines delivering about 700 hp (520 kW). Designated the LCT Mark 1, 20 were ordered in July 1940 and a further 10 in October 1940.)' Two sources are cited. This contradicts the statement in the introduction. According to the article, the US was only involved in manufacture and use after 1942, with the Mark V LCT. Unless someone can produce a source for the statement about the original British nomenclature being TLC, I intend to delete it. Robert P Connolly (talk) 15:54, 16 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

I've just found this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/history/ww2peopleswar/stories/23/a2096723.shtml which confirms that they were referred to as TCL/Tank Landing Craft by British forces. Robert P Connolly (talk) 16:18, 16 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Spelling edit

Most of the article uses British spelling, which is logical for an article about vessels invented and originally developed in the UK, but there are a few cases of US spelling. I'm going to replace them with British spelling now. Robert P Connolly (talk) 16:28, 16 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
