Talk:LGBT Mormon suicides

Problems edit

it seems as though this article is largely based on a single non-peer reviewed article published in a religious magazine (Mormon Dialog) followed by long lists of LGBT mormons that have either thought about suicide or have committed suicide.

this article is in dire need of actual peer reviewed research on the subject. any suggestions? Prefetch (talk) 01:59, 30 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Scope edit

I propose this article be moved to LGBT Mormon suicides and dropping the homelessness bit from the title and article content. It's unhelpful to coatrack homelessness issues here as it dilutes the notability of the topic delineated by the title (how many sources can you find that discuss suicide and homelessness so as to meet WP:GNG?). Furthermore, the homelessness issue is currently only discussed in the lead section, whereas the lead section should summarize what the main body of the article says. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 12:10, 12 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

This article needs a lot of work edit

Suggest organization as follows:

General research on Mormon identity and sucidality General research on LGBT identity and suicidality Studies and research on suicidality among LGBT members and former members Limitations in research

This article needs a lot of work to work towards a NPOV. Most folks interested in this subject have a clear bias of some sort and qualifying this content with up to date psychology/psychiatric research (with an explanation of levels of researvh quality) could be benificial to make this a lot more informative. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:810B:C8C0:6C7:3879:6F91:C3B5:808D (talk) 21:10, 11 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

New research needs to be included edit

This study is important to include:

McGraw, J. S., Docherty, M., Chinn, J. R., & Mahoney, A. (2021). Family, faith, and suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STBs) among LGBTQ youth in Utah. Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity

It seems to be from trustworthy group of non-LDS researchers that are concerned with these issues and seeking to accurately represent them. I believe that it gets to the familial essence of this important issue in ways that invite the care of LGBT youth. Jskalski (talk) 17:17, 28 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

The edit made from this study included, "the presence or absence of family conflict and parental closeness were related to increased reports of depression, substance use, self-harm, suicidal ideation and attempts". This needs some clarification. I think it means the presence of family conflict or the absence of parental closeness did so, but it doesn't actually say that explicitly.
