Sorry, yeah. I was trying to do new page patrol and saw an anon removing works.

Sure is confusing to have two composers with similar birthdate and almost identical names.... I am trying to fix the mess I made. Sorry, sorry, sorry. And this shows why new page patrol is impossible; it so mind deadening that this kind of goof happens. OK, I think I have removed all the works I erroneously added. John Luther Adams was not nominated for the 1999 Contemporary Music or Orchestral Performance Grammies. John Coolidge Adams was for the Cont. Music, but neither were for Orchestral Performance. Bassedancer (talk) 17:13, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

The citations on this page really need to be fixed.

Agreed. Wikipedia:Citing says "Each article should use the same citation method throughout; if an article already has citations, adopt the method in use or seek consensus on the talk page before changing it (this principle is known as WP:CITEVAR)." So, I'm now looking for consensus, as I think the style used here is distracting; I would rather see the footnote style used on many/most Wikipedia pages. Whbjr (talk) 17:51, 26 December 2014 (UTC)

As the editor who first added citations to this article, I think I have made the citation style as consistent as you could wish. The guideline you cite specifies that personal preference or making the style match other articles are not valid arguments, so why do you think that Harvard referencing is distracting for everyone, and footnotes are not? Or is it the linking of the Harvard citations to the list of sources that you find distracting? (I grant you it does contribute to the "sea of blue" problem). Personally, I find footnote numbers even more distracting, because I cannot easily glide over them without missing what may or may not be important information. A further question: are you proposing a change to short-footnote markup (which would effectively transfer the present citation into footnotes, which in turn would be linked to the list of sources, thus resulting in two-click links instead of the current one-click links), or a more ambitious change to full-footnote style, in which the complete bibliographical data for each source would be contained in the footnotes, resulting n the dismantling of the alphabetical list of references, which I find valuable?—Jerome Kohl (talk) 00:38, 27 December 2014 (UTC)

I may have a photo of Adams which I'll be happy to contribute, but I need some help. I caught part of a recent performance by a local bluegrass ensemble called Kentucky Tundra. The fiddle and mandolin player was introduced as "John Adams" by the band's leader, and there is a resemblance. However, I've never met Adams, despite the fact that we've both lived in Fairbanks for decades (understandable; in spite of appearances, it's not that small a town). Googling the band's name provided plenty of information on people in Kentucky willing to sell me a Toyota Tundra, but nothing about the band itself other than scattered promotion of various gigs. Also, if he does play in a bluegrass band, that would be a little out of place when compared with the image of him portrayed in this article and on his website. (Google the terms «"John Adams" "Kentucky Tundra"» for more specific results. – "John Adams" "Kentucky Tundra") I looked at some YouTube videos uploaded by "John Adams" and agree about the resemblance to the images on his website. However, his CV only mentions drums/percussion as his instrument, so I suppose the only way to find out is to see the band again and ask him. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 03:19, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Sorry for the late reply here. I had thought of approaching him before I posted the above, but doing so would defeat the nature of doing this anonymously. My Wikipedia activities have already been the source of real-life emnity, as there's plenty of people out there who don't want you and I to have free information because it competes with what they do to earn their living, or otherwise gets in the way of portraying things the way they want them to be portrayed. Probably just as well that I took so long to respond, as I came across this story the other day, which prominently describes Adams as a "former Fairbanksan". Of course, the newspaper business has been in dire straits for years, as "reporting" more resembles regurgitation of press releases than actual reporting. They say "former Fairbanksan", yet no mention of when or why he left or where he is now. I listen to Performance Today on occasion, and they talk up Become Ocean the way a program playing 1980s pop/rock music would talk up "Don't Stop Believin'", so it's not really surprising if Adams left for greener pastures.
