Notability and sourcing edit

A person who's contributed 30-some RFCs to the Internet standars series, including major contributions in e-mail protocols, and been head of a governing body of the most important standards organization of the Internet, is certainly notable. The ACM Fellow award is also a clear sign of notability.

WRT sources - none of the sources are "primary" in the sense that they can be controlled and influenced by the person himself. But yes, some news articles would be nice too. [1] gives a hefty selection, but most of them are just quoting him in various contexts - one is an interview with him from 2000 (when he became head of the IAB), but the whole text isn't freely available online, it seems. --Alvestrand (talk) 07:14, 17 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the creation of this requested [2] article. I wanted to do this after Keith Moore, but never got the round tuit. --217.184.142.62 (talk) 00:35, 18 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Among others edit

The phrase among others can't be good encyclopedic English, would e.a or a.o. suffice? –89.204.137.192 (talk) 08:23, 28 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

I rephrased these using the word "including". Lentower (talk) 19:08, 13 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Bibliography section needed edit

This biography would benefit from a Bibliography section.

Beyond Klensin's Thesis and Google Scholar, http://ehis.ebscohost.com/eds/results?sid=b3f94e14-348e-44a3-ada3-3d137a7be3ce%40sessionmgr13&vid=1&hid=16&bquery=AU+john+klensin&bdata=JnR5cGU9MCZzaXRlPWVkcy1saXZl is a place to start for a list of his significant papers and books. Early Years section needed edit

This biography would benefit from an Early Years section, on his life before he got his S.B. from MIT. The present citations have a few facts.

A start at more: http://search.mit.edu/search?client=mithome&site=mit&output=xml_no_dtd&proxystylesheet=mithome&num=15&submit=Search&as_q=john+klensin - Lentower (talk) 19:48, 13 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

JFTR, the Randy Bush without wikilink here is the auhor of various RFCs, and of FidoNet standard 1, the technical foundation of FidoNet. –82.113.106.157 (talk) 04:49, 9 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Bush's name could be included, if he is shown in the citation to be one of the principal authors. — Lentower (talk) 16:13, 6 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

WP:CREDENTIALS edit

Can we get rid of the "Dr." here? Using titles is just not the common IETF style. The article mentions "ACM fellow", isn't that anyway better than "Dr."? –82.113.106.157 (talk) 04:35, 9 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

PL/1 & other non-Internet standards work edit

I believe Klensin was active in the PL/1 language standardization effort in the '60s (into the '70s?). And possibly other non-Internet standardization projects. If references can be cited, these should be added to the article. — Lentower (talk) 15:59, 6 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Undergraduate years edit

Klensin was quite active as an undergrad student at MIT. If references can be cited, these should be added to the article. I suspect the archives of The Tech (newspaper) would have references. — Lentower (talk) 16:01, 6 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

PhD thesis & work with Ithiel de Sola Pool edit

Klensin PhD thesis should be added. The MIT Libraries has copies of most MIT theses on line.

Klensin's work with and for Ithiel de Sola Pool in his first decades at MIT should also be added, if references can be cited. — Lentower (talk) 16:09, 6 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
