Heinz Zemanek edit

I am adding Zemanek to the list. He was appointed IBM Fellow in 1976 by T. J. Cary, Chairman of the Board. (Михал Орела 04:45, 3 September 2008 (UTC))

2009 Fellows edit

Added the names to the list, but didn't update the totals. I went by alphabetical order from the internal announcement, but so far I've only seen one external announcement. The format seemed to call for flagging the names as links, even though none of this year's fellows have Wikipedia pages yet. The link on Tim Vincent is NOT the correct person.

I'm not sure if I should create the Wikipedia page for the fellow I know? I could do it, but it seems to be a conflict of interest since I work in the IBM food chain? Shanen (talk) 07:18, 3 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

2011 Fellows edit

I know that there were new fellows added this year. I am an IBMer, and I know I got the list emailed to me who the new ones were. I will add them when I find the email, and get the chance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 32.97.110.54 (talk) 21:33, 10 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

But why is the insert into the article so intrusive? Could it not just be a small box with a link to relevant information? On a pad/tablet, smart phone, or netbook, one has to scroll through pages of pompous gobbledegook to get to the content of the article! mfc (talk) 16:30, 10 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
Please do not remove the {{copyvio}} template from articles. Your action has been reverted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other websites or printed material; such additions will be deleted, and removing copyright notices will not help your case. You can properly contest the deletion at Wikipedia:Copyright problems. If you are the owner of the material, you may release the material under the Creative Commons and GFDL licenses, as detailed at WP:IOWN. Alternatively, you are welcome to create a draft in your own words at a temporary subpage linked from the article. If you continue to insert copyright violations and/or remove copyright notices, you may be blocked from editing. Dear mfc, the copyvio template is kept for about 7 days. In that time the issue should be settled and the template is removed. -- SchreyP (messages) 20:58, 10 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

False positives edit

I cannot find any indication that Paul Burton is an IBM Fellow. His WP biography doesn't even mention IBM. I've removed him from the list. --EnOreg (talk) 20:14, 15 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Riseman edit

I cannot find any indication that Riseman was a Fellow and so have marked him as dubious. Tom94022 (talk) 21:44, 11 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Please reference the 1972 Kybernetes Vol. 12, Iss: 3 "Jacob Riseman became an IBM Fellow in 1969." http://www.emeraldinsight.com/journals.htm?articleid=1663628&dType=SUB&show=pdf — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eocatney (talkcontribs) 13:57, 14 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

I worked with Jacob Riseman, although I only met him now and then. My recollection is that he was an IBM Fellow. Eocatney, could you please state the title of the article you are citing, the author, and the page number that "Jacob Riseman became an IBM Fellow in 1969" appears on? I will edit the article accordingly once the information needed is provided. Jc3s5h (talk) 17:06, 14 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
FWIW, I too found a link to the article referenced above but was unable to access it. I did not find any other reference to Riseman as a Fellow and in the end decided the one inaccessible article was not a reliable source so I tagged the addition of Riseman as dubious. Tom94022 (talk) 17:15, 14 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
IBM has updated its "Fellows" directory. It now lists all Fellows. Riseman was named a Fellow in 1969. See Directory, here cnay, 17 Sept 2013 —Preceding undated comment added 18:34, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Number of Columns in Section 1 List edit

EnOreg reverted Section 1 to one column stating three is "too many columns, affecting readability". Frankly I found one column unreadable which is why I went to three, so I will try two to see if that will satisfy EnOreg. Any other thoughts? Tom94022 (talk) 18:09, 9 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

I understand what you're trying to do but it doesn't seem to be working. In Firefox, the version before your modifications does in fact show three columns whereas your first version has not three but nine columns, and your current version only two.
So on your system the original version has only one column? What browser do you use? --EnOreg (talk) 07:30, 10 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
I've now replaced the columns-list template with div col which appears to support more browsers. Does this work for you? --EnOreg (talk) 15:34, 10 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the explanation and the change; I use Chrome and thought the Wikipedia Template was pretty much browser independent - so much for assumptions. I tried the current window in XP/FF, XP/IE8 and XP/Opera; it appeared as one column in IE8 and as three in the other browsers. I'd try it in Win7/IE9 except my system is stuck in the middle of a Microsoft upgrade :-( If I have some time i might see why the template misbehaves. Tom94022 (talk) 15:56, 10 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Displays fine one column on Win7/IE9. I tried the old window in my 4 XP browsers, only showed 3 columns in XP/Chrome. Tom94022 (talk) 16:42, 10 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Apparently template:Div col and some other column templates require CSS3 support which is not available in most older browsers as per this chart. Strange that FF did not work. I hope this exhausts this topic. Tom94022 (talk) 03:03, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi Tom, thanks for the analysis. The way I understand it, the advantage of div col is that it does not rely on CSS3 exclusively but uses additional mechanisms for Firefox, Safari and Chrome, whereas columns-list works only with CSS3. If that is true the current status with div col should be the best solution we have so far, right? --EnOreg (talk) 07:47, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Agreed and thanks for the dialog. Tom94022 (talk) 17:11, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Complete List edit

The complete list of Fellows is now on the IBM Website (Järvinnen is according to this list not an IBM Fellow).--Claude J (talk) 07:27, 25 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps now is the time to remove the list of individual fellows in deference to IBMs list? Tom94022 (talk) 10:54, 25 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
But IBM's list does not contain wikilinks to the Wikipedia article about the fellow. Jc3s5h (talk) 14:33, 25 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
How notable is each fellow? The most recent ones are not even wikified.Zigzig20s (talk) 12:29, 9 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
And many of the early ones do not have Wiki articles. So why not eliminate the list here, replacing it with a link to the IBM site and using links from those articles about IBM fellows to the this summary article? Tom94022 (talk) 17:13, 10 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Conflict of Interest edit request: Add link Kyle Brown's Wikipedia's page edit

  • What I think should be changed: Add link to Kyle Brown's Wikipedia's page: Kyle_Brown_(computer_scientist)
  • Why it should be changed: Because in the article it's not linked and the page exists
  • References supporting the possible change (format using the "cite" button):
