Nordics

Removed *Nordics, because it linked to Scandanavian Nordics, which, I figure, are not fictional. Was someone trying to imply that Noordics aren't human or is there a fictional term Nordic which means something. In that case, create the page instead of just the link

Origin of the word?

No explanation whatsoever is offered. From what I know, the two forms are correct, android (greek, andros + eides) and hominid (latin-greek, homo + eides); therefore the word humanoid actually seems incorrect to me. I guess it was coined because the two above mentioned words are already in use. Anybody care to elaborate? --arny (talk) 13:54, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

"Hominid" is is homo + ides actually - homo + eides gives us hominoid. "Humanoid" is based on a related but distinct Latin work humanus, meaning "human" in the adjectival sense (as in "human behaviour"), either directly or via English 'human'. 85.8.12.78 (talk) 21:02, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

When is a being not humanoid?

The description of a humanoid leaves a lot to the imagination. The best description is that it must resemble a human in some way -- however, when does something not resemble a human? Are winged all bipedal humanoid? What about quadrupeds? ? So you thought it wise to move the page on all humanoids to one particular species? As a matter of interest exactly what is a whatnot? I move to remove the convergent evolution section

This appears to be a large section somewhat unrelated to the topic at hand. It is also fringe science (not convergent evolution, but the idea that dinosaurs might have evolved into humanoids). This could be put in a separate article about the dinosaur theory, or about its one proponent, but does not appear relevant to an article on humanoids. It is also out of place because only one such possible path of the many species that might have evolved into humanoids is covered. Science fiction is rife with such tales, and I bet that at least one fringe scientist has penned such wild speculations on about every species known.
