I notice that the population figures in the box and the text differ - which one is correct ?

I changed the phrase "performed the tale in the authentic places". How can that be when we are talking about a legend ? Besides, the play is performed in the town centre, I've seen it. RASAM (talk) 22:47, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Some historicly content

Sorry for my bad English, I tried my best but years in school are far beyond. Hopefully somebody understands what I wrote down and can correct it to a better English. I will try to translate more of the German Site, maybe somebody else can correct it afterwards. I was grown up in Hamelin and have loads of pictures on my MacBook. Another interesting fact

...is that Hamelin has more than 24 gambling halls at a population of aprrox. 60.000 people. That is the highest density of gambling halls (called "Spielhalle") all over Germany. Is has to do with money laundry, but is mostly tolerated. Hamelin is also home of a british milltary engineers garrison and home to the only youth prison in the state of lower saxony (Jugendanstalt Hameln-Tündern).--89.182.8.215 (talk) 16:45, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

In Spain Hamelin is known for the legend or story about the Piper of Hamelin, from the Grimm Brothers.

1000 vs. 200

I deleted a passage where it said that 1000 German war criminals were hanged at Hamel(i)n. This is not true. The only hangman to officate there was Albert Pierrepoint, and he did "only" 200 (see Fielding, Stephen, Pierrepoint. A Family of Executioners). I have seen that the number "1000" was, in the passage deleted by me, referenced with a link to a page where David Irving, in one of the trials he stood, asked a witness in cross-examination, whether he was aware that the Hameln hangings ran into that number, and witness said NO. I cannot accept that the mere statement by David Irving would suffice as proof - the more so because it is meanwhile well known that Mr Irving's historical statements must be taken with a grain of salt, especially when it comes to matters related to Nazis.--Kauko56 (talk) 21:38, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
