Dates & dashes edit

En dashes should be used in scorelines and only full dates and dates with a day and month should be wikilinked, including in the footnotes. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dashes) and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers). Epbr123 20:53, 26 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

After reviewing the style manual links you provided: the wikilinking of years appears to be something that is up in the air and looks to depend on the preference of various editors; there is no reference at all to the use of dashes in sports scores that I could see - the use of a colon is a common convention in German football, and so can at least be said to fit the context in the absence of a hard and fast rule. ??? Declass B to Start edit

The article has several issues

  • not more than 10 references. This is not a B-Class article.
  • if the article is about the footbáll association team only, it should be renamed. All other Bundesliga teams are mentioned in one sentence.
  • the external link section may be not in the wiki style.
  • some sections are totaly without references.
Grammar and WP:MOS not checked.

So I declassed this article. Greetings Sebastian scha. (talk) 21:14, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nicknames edit

Urgestein, Bundesliga-Dino etc are items which may be used sometimes in connection with the club. But they are no real nicknames. Rothosen can be called a nickname, but in the Bundesliga the nicknames arent as important and common as e.g. in the English Premier League. That is why the German WP decided not to list them in the info boxes of the Bundesliga club articles.--95.115.27.49 (talk) 18:32, 20 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Traditionsverein edit

multi-sport club does not translate to Traditionsverein. Traditionsverein would approximately translate to traditional club.

usually referred to as... edit

Isn't this club usually referred to as "HSV", not Hamburg? --345Kai (talk) 23:13, 15 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

IPA for German for English readers edit

Hamburger Sport-Verein [ham.ˈbʊɐ̯.gɐ ˌʃpɔɐ̯tʰ.fə.ˈʁaɪ̯n] may not be so easily decoded and understood for readers not familiar with IPA. I think the [tʰ] is extremely "exakt, genau". But please note that “HSV” is very differnt from English /H-S-V/. It is more [haː.ɛs.faʊ] (long a; in the end /au/ as diphthong. --Schwab7000 (talk) 10:30, 6 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Verein is Ver-ein edit

The last word of the name is slightly different to pronounce, but only for the “syllable boundaries”. Verein is Ver-ein, unlike unrein (impure), which is un-rein. So [fəʁ.ˈaɪ̯n], not[fə.ˈʁaɪ̯n]--Schwab7000 (talk) 11:02, 6 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

"Wir bleiben oben!" edit

In 1998 I visited Volkparkstadion (against Mönchengladbach), and I kept a (hard) platic beer mug as a souvenir. On the mug is stated "Wir bleiben oben ! Für Euch ! Für uns ! Für Hamburg !" I think this translates into "We remain open! For You! For us! For Hamburg!". But what's really ment by "oben" ("open") ? Is the club like Real Madrid owned by it's members, or is it of any other significance ? If the club is owned by it's members, I find it to be of encyclopedical value and ought to be mentioned in the article. Boeing720 (talk) 22:36, 12 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Oben in German means "up". This refers to the club playing in the highest tier of football, and also that it has been playing in the Bundesliga since its inception in 1963, the only club to have achieved that. Madcynic (talk) 13:35, 13 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Felix Magath edit

It seems there was an edit by a Felix Magath fan. While a good player, he was not *the* outstanding player of the 1980s period. Player like Hrubesch, Kaltz, and possibly Keegan seem more prominent. I tried to tone down the article a bit. The question remains if any playes should be singled out at all.165.120.176.79 (talk) 12:08, 29 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Chairman edit

Bernd Hoffmann is no longer the Chairman/CEO. The club currently functions with two executive board and may remain that way. I suggest replacing the “Chairman” with “Executive Board” and add the two names there, just like Schalke 04 page, as it’s more accurate description for the structure of the club now.
