Reverting title of page

Since the game has only been released in Japan and as the other articles retain the Japanese title, could we dismiss using the English title until the game is officially announced by Nintendo. Thank you! Zacharyalejandro (talk) 22:14, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

That's not how this works. Every one of our English-language reliable sources refers to the game as "Great Detective Pikachu", which makes for its common name. This is the English Wikipedia—we prefer English-language sources when available, and we prefer using the name that those sources use. czar 04:20, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

Common name should really apply to only official English-licensed names (for example, manga and light novels with lengthy names will be referred to by its shorthand name provided it is licensed with that name). Great Detective Pikachu is, for all intents and purposes, still just a fan name until the game is actually confirmed for an English release. The entire point of COMMONNAME is that we should use the most commonly used name in English-language regardless of its official status. I definitely support "Great Detective Pikachu".--IDV^talk 10:09, 21 July 2016 (UTC)

It still needs some official basis. It's why we can't just call the Toei series of Yu-Gi-Oh! "Yu-Gi-Oh! Season Zero" despite everyone else calling it that. Frankly the whole COMMONNAME thing needs a good looking at since Gyakuten Kenji 2 has been moved to Ace Attorney Investigations 2 despite having no official English release and Mother (video game) retaining its Japanese title despite being officially released as EarthBound Beginnings.Wonchop (talk) 10:17, 25 July 2016 (UTC)

While I do understand your point, @Wonchop:, we tend not to use official titles just because they are official. That's exactly what WP:COMMONNAME is about. Currently, WP:VG's reliable sources use Great Detective Pikachu. And as such, we should too. Japanese release date

The digital version released in Japan in 2016 only has the first chapter of the game. The game that is coming out now, March 2018, isn't simply a western release of the 2016 game, but an expanded version with more content, as the article says. What the article currently doesn't make clear is that the two releases are different and that the expanded one is also coming out in Japan. The article currently gives the impression that the 2016 game is the same as the 2018 one, particularly when stating the release dates. Whatever102030 (talk) 15:09, 7 March 2018 (UTC)

I actually did differentiate this in the article header when the worldwide release was announced and I got my facts straight back in January, but it was recently cut for simplicity, for reasons I don't fully understand but won't argue against. Guess it's just best to see what some others think, whether it's worth making the header slightly more cluttered, or just putting it all in the Development section. Or neither.
