I am surprised to see that somebody wrote my name as the purchaser of Fukang and not responsible for his/her word at all. I first knew this meteorite through a Changsha mineral dealer in Tucson. I sincerely hope that the Chinese government and the US purchasers can investigate and classify this issue.

Who holds the "main mass"?

edit

I just stumbled over this article. I see that it currently says, "A total of thirty-one kilograms (sixty-eight pounds) of type specimen is on deposit at University of Arizona. Marvin Killgore holds a total of the same amount. An anonymous collector holds the main mass.", citing this source in support. The cited source appears to support some portion of the text I've quoted here, but not all of it. In particular, it makes no mention of an anonymous collector -- mention of which could be supported by citing this source. My googling turned up this source, wherein the Southwest Meteorite Laboratory claims that they have the 925 lb (about 425 kg) "main mass" of the Fukang pallasite on display. I don't know anything about any of this. I mention it here in hopes that it will receive attention from an editor who knows more about this than I do.
