etymology edit

Is "fizzle" a portmanteau of "fission" and "sizzle"? Benlisquare (talk) 02:49, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

See wikt:fizzle. Not exactly a backronym but a backmanteau? - ¡Ouch! (hurt me / more pain) 07:23, 3 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

No consensus to move. Note that the nominator now opposes. Vegaswikian (talk) 00:06, 16 July 2010 (UTC) Fizzle (nuclear test)Fizzle — A short reason for page name change. 75.142.152.104 (talk) 05:07, 9 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose. To most people "fizzle" means "not to burn well" or similar: see wikt:fizzle. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 20:57, 9 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment this IP user, 75.142.152.104 has a bad habit of not following instructions. S/He repeatedly refuses to leave a reason for moving pages around, and has been doing this for months on end. S/He has been informed several times about the need for leaving a reason. 76.66.192.55 (talk) 04:36, 10 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. Since I just created a disambiguation page. 75.142.152.104 (talk) 05:08, 10 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Dragonfire incident edit

This is only indirectly related to a nuclear fizzle. IMO, it belongs elsewhere, into an article more closely related to terrorism. - ¡Ouch! (hurt me / more pain) 06:58, 3 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Because it's mostly about the USA? RomanK79 (talk) 00:11, 20 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Nuclear fission tests considered to be fizzles edit

Upshot–Knothole Ruth
Testing a uranium hydride bomb. The test failed to declassify the site (erase evidence) as it left the bottom third of the 300-foot (91 m) shot tower still standing.
