Major exhibitions edit

I added this section with the intention of calling out the really MAJOR exhibitions that aren't just a few artists, but those covering the movement as an entire movement. There are many exhibitions listed in the Timeline section, but I think a few are especially important to highlight. I'd be happy to discuss which ones seem relevant to include in this section. The Dinner Party was the only individual one included and that's for obvious reasons. Sue Maberry

Bibliography added edit

I have spent many hours creating this bibliography. I have selectively edited it for this Wikipedia article. I originally created it for the Doin' It In Public exhibition at Otis. That's why it is so L.A. It needs more, but I would request that any articles added be about either MAJOR feminist artists/critics/designers who MAJORLY impacted the movement. Sue Maberry

artists section edit

This still needs major cleanup. It's a completely idiosyncratic list. I suggest that we move this list to its own category. I may do that as soon as I have time. Sue Maberry

I just edited this section and added a the Category: feminist artists link. I hope artists deleted aren't offended, but the goal is to get some EXAMPLES of internationally visible seminal feminist artists and not create a big weird idiosyncratic list within this article. Sue Maberry

Comment edit

Wikipedia coverage of contemporary art is generally insufficient. In my own small way, I have begun to create articles about subjects with which I have some familiarily. I has been distressed about the lack of coverage of women artists and of this movement which was extremely important. There are now many project created to address the issue of documenting feminist art and women artists. Wikipedia is just one more place where information needs to be put.

I only had enough time to BEGIN this article. I appeal to the hundreds of others who are familiar with this movement to add to this article as I shall do over the next few weeks and months. Sue Maberry 18:42, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello there, I would like to help out because I have studied Art History and took a great interest in the Feminism movement. Perhaps I could provide scanned images of the artwork by Miriam and Judy amongst others.

la women's building? edit

I am wondering if I can get comment on whether it is accurate to refer in the article to the LA Women's Building as "a prominent museum known for its displays of feminist art." Correct me if I am wrong- it wasn't a museum? Thanks! Mollificent (talk) 22:40, 21 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

It was NOT a museum, it was a non-profit art center with gallery and educational programs. Museum implies that there was a permanent collection.Sue Maberry (talk) 05:03, 29 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

A little late here, but, you can learn more about that here, now: Woman's Building SarahStierch (talk) 06:42, 29 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Clean up of this article edit

Hi everyone. On Wikipedia we generally don't like timelines like the one featured here. Also, the bibliography is just too long. I'd like to start widdling it down. I really only thing we need to focus on the biggest and best books about feminist art, then we can provide links to other bibliographies in the external link section. Please let me know your thoughts. It's just painful to read - imagine reading this on your mobile phone! Also, I'm thinking we should perhaps rename this article "feminist art movement in the United States" as there were feminist art movements in other countries, even if at different periods outside the 1970s. Thoughts? SarahStierch (talk) 18:40, 8 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

These are my thoughts exactly. The article should be renamed "feminist art movement in the United States" as it only really talks about the States. I have removed the long, ref'd timeline listing and will reduce the bibliography to books. My sense is that there is a whack of spam in their as editors have added their own works in. Feminist Art Movement in 2018 edit

This section (which may present original research?) cries out for citations. Its capitalization of "Feminist Art Movement" is at odds with the style adopted for the phrase elsewhere in the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.17.179.75 (talk) 22:59, 12 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
