Many do not know what format means, why can this not be included on wikipedia? Pebkac (talk) 22:39, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Reasons for Removing Prod edit

I've removed the prod as I think it's far from an uncontroversial delete and so unsuitable for prod. Personally I'd be minded to keep given that we have articles on copy, rename, attrib etc. etc. Indeed format is the only 'basic file system' command in Template:Windows_commands without it's own article. Therefore if people want this article deleted I think it needs wider discussion at AfD. That's not to say this article doesn't need work but that's no reason to delete. Options edit

The /S option info is IMO wrong, the boot record is always a boot record, e.g., it looks for NTLDR on a floppy formatted by windows 2000. Actually there is no /S option in windows 2000 and windows 7. IIRC this was a shorthand for "reserve space for whatever the SYS command does" — or did it actually do what SYS does? Anyway, my main point is that this option might not exist depending on the platform. –89.204.137.133 (talk) 19:00, 17 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Prompt for confirmation edit

The note about versions prior to MS-DOS 3.3 not prompting for confirmation and attempting to format the current drive are incorrect. This is original research and should be confirmed via other means, but MS-DOS 2.11 does ask for confirmation before proceeding with format. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arnold.exe (talkcontribs) 20:58, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
