  • This section could be called simply "Campaign".

  • I think it is awkward starting this section with a quote. In any case, MoS says that cquote is deprecated for blockquotes.

  • The TOC seems unbalanced, with the first two sections very short and this third section humongous with three subsections that contain most of the article. Perhaps the material could be sectioned in a more balanced way.   Done
  • The section needs more subdivisions, as the reader is faced with long sections with no subheading guidance.   Done
  • All quotes need an immediate citation; this section has a couple in the beginning by McCarthy that are not cited: e.g. 'Upon his entrance, the Senator articulated that he believed there was a "deepening moral crisis" in America with the rejection of the political system by citizens. As president, he hoped to "alleviate...this sense of political helplessness." ' and 'Near the end of January, McCarthy campaigned in St. Louis, where he continued his anti-war rhetoric, describing the conflict in Vietnam as against "American tradition" and commented that "no nation has a right" to "destroy a nation" with the rationale of "nation building."   • Prose. In quick succession in "Challenging the incumbent", second para: "where he stated", "where the he discussed", "where he criticized", "where he continued".  Done
  • "McCarthy started off the new year by making no promises about a potential challenge of the president on the Florida primary ballot" - I assume this means 1968; best to orient the reader by reiterating the year.  Done

  • Also, there is not supposed to be a space between the punctuation and the reference citation.  Done
  • Perhaps it would help by sectioning by opponent, e.g. Kennedy, Humphrey, McGovern.

Rely

Looks great and I will go through it soon. But you still have the cquote (for the blockquote) which MoS says is deprecated, plus I don't think it is a good way to start the section "Challenging the incumbent". This is a quotation from the MoS.

Block quotations
Format a long quote (more than four lines, or consisting of more than one paragraph, regardless of number of lines) as a block quotation, which Wikimedia's software will indent from both margins. Do not enclose block quotations in quotation marks (and especially avoid decorative quotation marks in normal use, such as those provided by the {{cquote}} template, which are reserved for pull quotes). Block quotations can be enclosed between a pair of <blockquote>...</blockquote> HTML tags; or use {{quotation}} or {{quote}}.

Although your quote is not more than four lines, you have rendered it as a blockquote and not as a pull quote. Perhaps you can consider putting it in a pullquote.

Perhaps you want to stick it in as a pullquote.

McCarthy's seeming indifference to the Russian invasion of Czechoslovakia edit

Bernie Sanders' 2015-16 Presidential campaign makes study of McCarthy's 1968 near-miss newly relevant. The article needs reference to the way McCarthy's seeming indifference and passivity shocked many. See Richardson, Darcy G., "A Nation Divided: the 1968 Presidential campaign" pp 155-156. Well, the invasion of Czechoslovakia occurred in August 68 during the Democratic Convention when the campaign was basically over.

I find "After Johnson's withdrawal, Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey entered the contest but avoided the primaries." That doesn't seem quite like what other places said: that Humphrey entered the contest too late for the primaries. Carlm0404 (talk) 10:44, 10 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
