Untitled edit

I have requested a citation for Glickman's attending Kansas State University. I could not find one on a curosory web search. --best, kevin [kzollman][talk] 06:21, 9 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

A link to Glickmans wikiquote entry is necessary. I don't know how to do it.--Nate 17:59, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Removal of unsourced information edit

I removed the unsourced reference to his family's religion. There is no mention of religion in the bios of his successor or predecesor. Also, there was no source indicating why he should be listed in the category of Masons. Notmyrealname 21:59, 5 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

relevant info edit

Firstly, the fact that Glickman is the first non-Jew to hold this post is part of his notability: "the selection broke with an unspoken Hollywood tradition. Glickman is Jewish, and for more than 80 years the job description for the Motion Picture Association presidency has read: Only politically connected Christians of unassailable moral character need apply." Secondly, if you read the discussion another user was insisting that Glickman's religion needs to be mentione din the article because he has been placed in a Jewish category.--81.159.218.74 20:51, 23 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

This is true, and in general I'm reluctant to see people's religion/ethnicity included in a bio UNLESS it can be shown to be relevant to their notability in some meaningful way. I think the source actually does that. However, the way it read before the last edit was very awkward. Maybe we could have a separate section on Glickman's tenure at the MPA and include this in there? Or perhaps just leave it for the MPA page. We should be able to fit it in without sacrificing flow and readability. Notmyrealname 21:09, 23 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I deleted the point that he was Jewish before reading this discussion because the style/placement of the comment is typifying in character. In other words, there are superior ways to discuss this information; any reasonable reader feels skeptical of a citation containing "Who needs one" for a comment about a politician's faith.--140.247.77.167 (talk) 00:04, 24 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't know if Jack Valenti had unassailable moral character. The FBI knew he had ties to the Mafia, although they checked him out for not being gay. Part of the purpose of the MPAA was to counter censors who were often Christian and the Catholic Church. I guess they're not so worried now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.59.195.97 (talk) 20:50, 10 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Article overhauled, expanded - needs to be re-reviewed edit

This article -- currently rated as only "Start"-class -- has just been extensively overhauled and greatly expanded, and is surely no longer "Start"-class

The article has new sub-section headers, and greatly expanded sub-sections on Glickman's political and post-governmental careers. In particular, Glickman's post-governmental careers -- previously grossly under-reported -- is perhaps the most important section (given that Glickman's influence is arguably much greater, nationally and globally, through these unusually high-profile, high-influence post-governmental roles, than during his terms in public office).

Further, numerous references citing major media and institutional sources have been added, to document nearly every statement in the article.
