I'm afraid that this article needs a lot of work to reach GA status. In particular, much of the text is uncited, and many sections have citation needed tags. This automatically disqualifies the article from GA status and I'm not going to conduct a detailed review. I'd suggest nominating this article for a peer review if you'd like a detailed assessment of it, but some suggestions for improvements are:

  • If possible, photos should be added to the 'Early life', 'First World War' and 'Between the wars' sections of the article
  • What was Monty's "attitude regarding the sexual health of his soldiers" which got him into trouble?
  • The "probably apocryphal" story should be removed
  • The account of the Second Battle of El Alamein is nonsense - Montgomery's initial plans didn't work, and he had to re-launch the offensive several days into the battle.
  • The account of the 8th Army's pursuit of the Axis forces through Libya and Tunisia is also highly sympathetic to Monty - many historians are scathing of his performance in this period.
  • The coverage of the campaigns in Scily and Italy is very short
  • The article doesn't mention the serious problems caused by Monty's boasting during the Battle of the Bulge
  • The quotations section belongs on Wikiquote, and not here.
  • None of the links in the 'See also' section seem necessary
  • It's a bit odd that the article hardly references Nigel Hamilton's detailed (and, I believe, well regarded) biography of Monty. Nick-D (talk) 05:03, 19 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
