Barua (Bengali: বড়ুয়া Boṛua, Arakanese: မရမာကြီး) is a distinct Bengali-speaking Indo-Aryan ethno-religious minority group native to Chittagong Division in Bangladesh, Rakhine State in Myanmar, where they are known as the Maramagyi or Maramagri, and parts of Tripura in northeast India.

Tradition edit
The Barua are the only remaining community of Indian Buddhists with historical connections to Nalanda, Vikramshila and Bodh Gaya in Eastern India where Buddhism survived even after the decline of the Mahaviharas. Language edit
Barua people of Bangladesh speak Chittagonian but relate to Bengali culture. It is a L1 language of most Barua people. It is not being accorded a separate language status because of socio-political reasons. I added the edit.
