Painting in ArtRage

Fair use rationale for Image:Artrage.jpg

Image:Artrage.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

ArtRage Bundles

"Ink Art", the version of ArtRage that came bundled in the MS Experience Pack with my Tablet PC, contains a very limited subset of features and a somewhat different interface. It seems more like a technology demonstration. I am editing the article to reflect this.Jim Lipsey (talk) 16:59, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

External Link - opinions?

Just hoping for a neutral opinion on whether this site is suitable for adding as an external link? A squidoo lens /artrageondeviantart (As apparently squidoo... com is a blacklisted link in these pages, I'm assuming it's a no) I'm uncertain because it appears to fall in the gray area of personal webpages (I've read as much as I can find on here) but is also one of the only compilations of ArtRage artwork I know of outside of the homesite. The question to ask is whether linking to that site would help a person understand the program better. I would normally be doubtful since a load of pictures made by an art program tells you more about the artists than about the program and is more an advertising technique than a useful resource. This could be a special case since it's a slightly unusual program in that it attempts to mimic physical artwork.

I would say, don't provide a link. Instead, perhaps the best way to show what the program does would be for you to create an image (or a very small collection of images) showing some specific, unusual aspects about the way the program works. For example, you could create an image that shows a range of different brushstrokes and identifies what they are supposed to represent. You could then upload your image to Wikipedia or Commons and avoid the whole problem of whether a link is appropriate. GDallimore (Talk) 13:52, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Exporting files and DPI

This is incorrect - misleading. ArtRage PNG files export with the full dpi information in the ptg files. Some third party image editors will default to 72, 96, or other dpi settings, for displaying the image, but also increase the dimensions when viewing the file, retaining the complete pixel information. There is no bug and there is no pixel loss, the true dpi has not been changed (i.e. the ppi is identical to the source .ptg file). A discussion of this has frequently appeared in the Ambient tech support forums clarifying this misconception. Byron (talk) 17:20, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

Agree with Byron, this is misleading. The problem is with third-party interpretation of the .ptg format, not with ArtRage itself. Propose deletion for this segment.Smalltownbigtrees (talk) 22:21, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

Section about Ambient Design should be removed

It adds literally nothing of relevance to the article's topic, and feels like an underhanded attempt at brand promotion. It doesn't even touch on ArtRage, and instead glosses over other products and the awards they won.

I'd torch it outright, but since I've never deleted an entire chunk of an article before, I felt more comfortable asking others about its prospective deletion instead. OmenBreeze (talk) 05:48, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
