Opinion

In the "Content" section, the following words appear: "This faith could be interpreted as a Kierkegaardian leap, or a disingenuous compromise, but Tolstoy actually seems to be describing a more Eastern approach to what God is." A trivial pursuit?

The first sentence of the article asserts that Tolstoy’s work was "…on the subject of melancholia…." This statement may result in a reader having the notion that the book is about a mere passing subjective mood. As a result, it would be dismissive and would trivialize Tolstoy’s words. On the contrary, Tolstoy’s writing may be a rare, profound, objective insight into the essence of life. Wittgenstein, for one, thought it to be so.
