Suggested move
editSuggest moving title to "2021 Denver mid-air collision" or something similar, as that's the convention for other accidents and incidents of this type. Etingram (talk) 22:10, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
I agree with this.Waterfire (talk) 00:41, 19 May 2021 (UTC)
- The current title conforms to the community consensus title guidelines. That said, there are several articles about notable mid-air or runway collisions that do not use the flight-number title format, and I would be open to a page move. However, I suggest that we wait a little while longer to see if a WP:COMMONNAME consensus about the title emerges, and to make sure that the title can't be conflated with any other future mid-air collision occuring in the Denver area in 2021. Also, I would argue that 2021 Centennial Airport mid-air collision is a more logical title, as neither the collision site nor the airport falls within Denver city limits. Key Lime Air Flight 970 → 2021 Centennial Airport mid-air collision – The current title conforms to the community consensus title guidelines, but I propose that the page be moved per WP:COMMONNAME, since relatively few non-aviation media reports even reference Flight 970. Although "Colorado" and "Denver" have been used in non-aviation sources, I propose "Centennial Airport" per WP:PRECISION, as neither the airport nor the collision site falls within Denver city limits, and it is possible that another notable mid-air may occur in Colorado in 2021. Carguychris (talk) 16:22, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- Support per norm and WP:CONSISTENT; for aviation incidents involving two aircraft, article titles tend to include characteristics common to both aircraft, such as the location where the incident occurred (e.g 2020 Kenai Peninsula mid-air collision). JaventheAldericky (talk) 21:01, 25 May 2021 (UTC)
- Support As I already stated.Waterfire (talk) 21:39, 25 May 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose – but would support 2021 Denver mid-air collision. OK, strictly speaking the crash site was outside Denver's city limits (not even by much), but a title needs to be recognizable rather than pedantic. --Deeday-UK (talk) 09:14, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- If "Centennial Airport" really cannot be used, then I support moving to this alternative title as well. Another suggestion could be to create "2021 Denver mid-air collision" as a redirect to the proposed title. JaventheAldericky (talk) 16:26, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
Alternate names
editTo reflect the recent page move discussion, I have created redirects for both 2021 Colorado mid-air collision and 2021 Denver mid-air collision. In the long term, I'd prefer for this article to be moved to "2021 Colorado mid-air collision", but I'll wait until 1 January 2022 to make sure another one doesn't occur! 2021 Centennial Airport mid-air collision → 2021 Colorado mid-air collision – No other mid-air collision meeting general notability guidelines seems to have occurred in Colorado during 2021; multiple searches of mainstream news sites all seem to lead to this specific crash. As per the previous discussion, this crash is particularly confounding geographically; the media generally refers to the site as "Denver" or "Centennial Airport", but the collision itself did not take place on airport grounds, the Cirrus crashed off-airport, and neither the airport, the collision site, nor the final location of the Cirrus wreck are actually within Denver corporate limits. Due to a lack of comparable crashes, "Colorado" is adequate to meet WP:COMMONNAME while neatly resolving the geographical debate.
