Notability

Not so rapid. I'm open to retitling the page, but I'm not a fan of that title. First, I think it should probably have 2012 in it, second, much of the action happened in Guntown, MS, so perhaps including Whiteville, TN in the title is not a good idea. I myself lean slightly toward keeping the name what it is. While others are involved, Mayes was clearly the primary perpetrator of every crime committed, with the roles of his wife and mother being secondary. Mayes is clearly the most notable of the people involved in this crime, and the fact that he died first doesn't change that. D O N D E groovily Talk to me 21:34, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

Most of the action didn't take place in Guntown; Mayes was merely last seen in Guntown. Most of the activity took place in an unincorporated area of Union County known as Alpine (with signs denoting such on Mississippi Highway 9). The confusion here stems from the FBI going by a postal address which says Guntown, but is located in another county 15 miles outside the city limits of said town. Technically, it's a Guntown address because there's no post office located within the Alpine area, but the activity took place in Alpine. Many media sources are finally beginning to adopt this into their stories as well (or keep it vague by saying northern Mississippi or Union County). Much of the confusion stemmed from the FBI using the literal address and saying Guntown repeatedly in press releases and interviews. But if you check Wikipedia's Guntown, Mississippi entry, you will indeed find its city limits end well before Lee County does. I agree. 2012 Bain murder-kidnappings would be best, mainly because that is how the media portraits it. Meanwhile, a google search on "2012 Whiteville-Gunston Incident" turns up nothing. Stubbleboy 23:49, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

• I second a renaming of the article to 2012 Bain murder-kidnappings. Right now Mayes isn't independently notable enough to warrant his own article and since he's dead, it's unlikely that he will become so. • I'd say "Bain murder-kidnappings", as the hyphenated version suggests someone by the name of Mayes was murdered or that the victims were related to Mayes. As far as the increased amount of hits, I think that might be due to including Mayes's name in the search. It does increase the hits, but I don't see the murder and kidnappings referred to as "Mayes-Bain". Also, all of the articles I've seen that refer to a murder (or anything along those lines) usually list the article by the victims' names, such as "Death of Jasmine Fiore", or by location, such as "Beltway sniper attacks".Tokyogirl79 (talk) 13:30, 20 May 2012 (UTC)
