St Bernard's High School and Arts College is a girls Catholic bilateral academy in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, with a mixed sixth form.[1] The school achieved specialist Arts status in 2004 and a specialist Science status in 2008. St Bernard's celebrated its centenary in 2010, having begun as a convent for young ladies in 1910. Its most famous alumna is noted actress Dame Helen Mirren.

Mission statement

The Mission Statement of the school, which is displayed to the public in the main reception area is "Love one another as I have loved you".[1]

Emblem

The school's emblem, which is featured on the school uniform as well as headed on letters from the school, is three swords within a double diamond. Below the diamond reads "Dieu Mon Abri" meaning "God My Shelter" in French.

Houses

Student's within the school are placed in different houses. These houses are: "A", "C", "F", "M" and "R", short for "Annay", "Clairvaux", "Fountains", "Melrose" and "Rievaulx", all of which are abbeys which are in some way connected to Saint Bernard.
